BMW repairs, identify part

Hi, new to the forum. I got a quick question, my mechanic was putting my bmw back together after a timing rail and chain change and as he was doing so a part broke. The problem is I have no idea what this part is or where to find a replacement for it. I've attached several pictures. Do any of you guys know what this thing is, called, and where I can buy another? Thanks.

Usually I'd ask my mechanic, as he should be able to ID it given realOEM and knowledge of the car and what moved when be broke it. He better be cheap if he doesn't know.

I can't tell what's broken from those pictures, but we should add it to this thread to help others:
- Pictorial look at typical E39 cooling system failure modes (1)

BTW, it might be listed in these videos ...
BMW Cooling System Failure Points, Part 1 (e36, e46, e34, e39):

BMW Cooling System Failure Points, Part 2 (e36, e46, e34, e39):

Looks more like a coolant control valve. You must have an automatic tranny, I don't have that part in my 6 speed.
There should be a p/n somewhere on that part.

Its called a Water Connector for Auto Trans Oil Cooler (Voltage Regulator) according to EAC where I ordered my replacement from. Part number is 17 21 1 437 772
