Garage advise to change brake pads despite no alarm!!

Dear All,

Teh workshop I sent my E66 to is advising to replace my brake pads front and rear despite there bing no alarms on my OB Display. Should I change them or wait for the E66 to alert me to that? They say they need to be changed as the brakes are too thin. I'm not too good at car mechanics and terminology

If it's just the pads and you have no warning then I would suggest you are OK. Are they talking about the brake discs instead? There is no warning mechanism for the brake discs as they would have to be visually inspected.

Hi James, yes, they say the brake discs need to be replaced, they said visual inspection revealed they're too thin I think. So, should I go for it?

Ouch!! It looks to me like the majority of the cost is labour and to repair the parking brake. I would ask what the minimum disk thickness allowable is and ask what yours are. It's likely that they will not yet be too thin but will exceed the minimum thickness before the brake pads need replacing next time around.

I can't comment on the cost of the parking brake unit but I suppose you could argue on an automatic whether it is strictly necessary.

Get a second opinion. Are you getting any shake or shimmy when applying the brakes?? How many miles on your car and what year? We need more info!

wow!! for that price I'll fly over with the parts, install and it may even cost you less, lol
