Oh yeah, they (or any other dealer with that kind of markup) is getting exactly zero business from me. I could go buy a brand new E9x M3 for that, it's disgusting.

I predict that as cars become more and more complicated, DIY electronics tools will become more common. VW has vag-com; with the bimmers we're able to use some of the leaked tools, and I'm sure the market for home diagnostics and programming will grow tremendously. Eventually the use of one of these tools will just be another requirement for DIYing (much like a torque wrench is necessary if you want to do things properly)

My wife is working w/ BMWEU to upgrade their repair bay computers, so I should be able to tell you the hardware they're gonna use. Got to see a idrive system without the car on the wife's desk. No more obd2 cables, they're gonna provide all that access through root-level bluetooth access. Neat stuff, should have a ToughPad to try out on my e46 using ye old OBD2 cable to usb. Will keep interested minds updated.

Oh, great! Encrypted proprietary wireless communications. Just what the Dr. prescribed for keeping Der Dumben Kustommer out and preserving the Service Dept. bottom line. And as a fringe benefit, we'll share the secret sauce recipe with Big Brother to keep tabs on the sheeple.

If I paint this white, and fit it to the front of my car, how much faster will I go?

Anything in particular you want to know? Pretty much all of the E46 stuff is documented in some way or another.

I have some basic changes I want to make. DRL'S off, clown nose blinking, etc. you and I exchanged a pm about it maybe a year or so ago, but you're kind of far away. I've looked into the Expert NCS but can't find where to get the program so I'm hoping for a local fester to figure it out. If not, or if I find myself in your neighborhood, maybe we'll be able to arrange a reprogram session.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Kris. But, occasionally, the crappy stuff reveals a better path ahead. (I know, it's hokey, but...)

How did you guess?

And so, my post pertaining to a four year old post got the appropriate response.

Naaaahhhh....I consider the M6 more of a GT car than anything else....like when you want to cover a lot of real estate in a hurry, and be comfortable while doing it. For pure sports performance, my choice would likely have a Lotus badge on it....

Earlier today, I saw one of those ads on facebook that said "look here for closeout prices on new BMW's". Not being one to pass on a good deal, I clicked on it, and used the search function to find a good price on an M3 in my area. About 5 minutes later, my phone rang, and a salesman from Roxbury BMW was calling to see if he could "help me find a car". Must be a slow day at the dealership.

BTW, price on 2011 M3...$53,000

We're in negotiation. I want the carbon fiber roof, but I want it painted white to match the rest of the car. The dealer doesn't want to include it in the deal but I'm trying to convince him that the clear carbon would just look too ricey. I don't think he understands.
