E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993. |

SI Board Replacement
Can anyone recommend a good place to buy a new service indicator board, or that sells rebuilt ones? I have seen some on ebay, but don't know if they will be quality or even guarantied to work. There is also some on pelican parts. I would just rather buy it from a reputable shop.

whats wrong with yours? if the batteries are dead, replace them. its easy, hardest part is removing the cluster from the dash. some guys have even ran wiring to a remote battery holder so its easier to change the batteries

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I already pulled the board out once and replaced the batteries. The issue is the board, because the old batteries leaked on to it and eroded some of the circuits. I don't have the skills to rebuild it myself. When I replaced the batteries my tachometer and temp gauge started working again (was the only reason I replaced them in the first place). But my service indicator, and service indicator lights never went fully operational. Only one red service light comes on. I don't know about you, but it would just be nice if it worked. Plus the temp gauge is reading a quarter mark lower than the real temperature is. It could be just the temp gauge, because I checked the ground and all the wiring is good. But since the board is bad I would like to start there.

does it jump at all? i know mine did that and i just had to tighten the nut to the needle on the backside. but i never had my lights worked, then threw in another si board from another car and surprisingly they all worked. you may get lucky and pick up another full cluster from a yard that has a working board for less then a rebuilt one. but its really a slim chance

Mine also almost the same...the tachometer needle always on 1000rpm even The key Removed....Just Replace the SI board and and get another gauge as spare

Yeah it used to jump and move erratically. I thought It was overheating once because the needle shot up. I did what you said and it doesn't move around any more. Does your temp gauge get jammed or wont move when you start the car? I have to smack the dash or wait for the engine temp to warm up and it eventually jumps up on its own. I do think the gauge is bad so I should just replace it.

it shouldnt move when you start the car unless the motor is warm. but i know i had to smack mine around a bit until i changed my si board. after that and tightening the nut it worked just fine

But the needle doesn't go up gradually as the car warms up it just shoots to whatever temp it is. If i smack it when i start the car the needle moves but only the the bottom of the cold mark, because when the ignition is switched off the needle sits below the cold mark.
