The '06 530i Sport Premium has clocked 68,975 miles and no issues other than faulty seat sensor that was replaced under CPO.

Bmw 545
I have a 2004 BMW 545i with 112,000 miles on it and have had the following: New Water Pump( Graf..Kinda loud but ok for now), Thermostat at 108k. Mechatronic seal at 72k and 109k($900.00 BMW) Leak near alternator at 90k(warranty). New Plugs at 100k and new Coils at 108k( Bosch from Ebay 23.00 ea). Coolant expansion tank at 44k(warranty). Rear tires Michelin Pilot Sport(So Smooth!!) Tie Rods replaced at 106k. Battery replaced at 102k. Oil Level Sensor replaced at 109k due to faulty Overheating signals being sent to the DME($465.00 and 3 days of diagnosis from BMW). Front brakes and rotors and sensor 3 times and Rear brakes and rotors/sensor 2 times. The car runs perfectly!! Very smooth tranny shifts and lots of power. Recently purchased an OBD reader to do any future maint myself. The only issue I have is some creaking from the rear shelf area....otherwise, its a winner

135,120 miles so far on my 2004 545i. Just had repairs for oil leaks and SES warning light turning on. Shop replaced thermostat & water pump, valve cover gaskets, alternator bracket seal, PCV valves, ECU cooling fan and oil level sensor. Also had my crank pulley replaced since it was wobbling. Not too bad for a high milage BMW.
While the car was under warranty, I made several trips to the dealership because of transmission surge problems. After several fixes that did not work, the transmission was finally replaced and that did the trick. My car is now out of warranty but the transmission still is until Mach 2012. No issues with it so far. Car still runs great!

'07 550 w/ 63k. No huge problems, gotta get in and fix strut brace creak at the firewall and the e-box fan still too loud but CPO not helping ("Certain Problems Overlooked"). Still occasionally think about selling but it's just too great...hoping the 550 is long-laster for me.

2009 535i Sport ... 37,100 miles ... HPFP replaced June 2009 after crapping out, and replaced again under recall with newer version (even though the first replacement seemed okay) ... the only other problem is a weird one ... the iDrive screen occasionally blinks off the on. Doesn't affect the driving, but after numerous tries to fix at the dealer, I gave up and just ignore it when it happens (and the car does NOT need to be moving when it happens, so no obvious loose connections). However, I think it could likely be a connection that heats up a bit, then cools quickly (I've had that happen in a computer years ago).
Anyway, love the car ... get 25mpg combined, and 28mpg on a trip, and I pass just about anybody I want!

Just broke 50K. Day time running lights replaced, Driver-side rear light cluster wiring and harness replaced twice, push rods and roller arm replaced due to tapping. All under warranty.
I've had my Bimmer experience. I'll probably keep it for a few more years and then trade it in for an Infinity, Lexus, or Honda. This car (528ix)is terribly sluggish for all that its touted for. I should have bought a 535 iX and put up with the HPFP issues. |

2008 535i with 33.5 on it. No problems. HPFP and injectors replaced under recall about 18 months ago.
And not e60, but a 2003 Z4 with 44K on it, FWIW. No problems with the Z... the usual maintenance and replaced the godawful runflats with some real tires + AAA and a cellphone (never needed it yet). Last edited by KCbimmer99; 02-25-2012 at 08:26 PM. |

Quote:
IMHO the 528ix is not a car that does BMW justice (at least unmodded). The 328i is not sluggish or under powered. But throw the power demands of AWD on that engine and then add 3-400 extra pounds to slap it in a 5xx body... Not adequate. 328ix OR 528i probably okay. But the 5 PLUS the ix is too much. That's a car with the kind of "oomph" you'd get from... well... Infinity, Lexus or Honda (assuming you really mean Acura on the latter). Bottom line is the advice you see here regularly on the "528 vs. 535" threads: "If you're thinking about a 528... don't drive a 535 or the 528 won't be appealing any more." |
