E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993. |

Ok that's what I figured. If I'm only running a mildly hopped up m42 I imagine the oem stuff will e fine, assuming its not decayed from rust..

I thought this was pretty funny when i saw it:
"The city of Trenton reportedly has resolved a messy budget standoff that threatened to wipe out the government's toilet paper supply. The city had been at a standoff over a proposed $42,000 contract for paper supplies. Without an imminent replenishment, city offices were watching their toilet paper and paper towel stock draw dangerously low. But Trenton Mayor Tony Mack's office announced Tuesday that the city would make an emergency purchase of toilet paper and other supplies, MyFoxPhilly.com reported. And two outside organizations, including People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, have stepped in to help Trenton avoid another TP crisis. Mack announced Tuesday that the city will accept an offer from PETA for a six-month supply of toilet paper. The only catch is the toilet paper will be emblazoned with a pro-vegan message. According to the original letter from PETA to Mack, the toilet paper rolls will read: "Slaughterhouses are so filthy that more than half of all meat is contaminated with fecal bacteria. Wipe cruelty from your diet. Go vegan. PETA." Mack said in his statement that PETA's "generous gift will be used by Trentonians from all walks of life." The city also accepted a new set of hand dryers from vacuum cleaner company Dyson, meant to help the city cut down on paper towels." Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012...#ixzz1p99ofpor Who knew Peta wastes all its money on toilet paper when they should be doing whatever it is that they do. Mostly complain about stupid crap.

Guys, my e30 radiator has a slow leak and Im going tomorrow to get a replacement. Im torn whether I want to get the m42 rad to clean the engine bay a little, or if I just want to go with what ive been running all along which is another m20 rad? The dude wants $60 for either one, but idk which one I want.
Reason im hesitant for the m42 one is ive read they dont cool down the engine as much, and bleeding the system is a bitch.. Plus my temp gauge isn't completely accurate (and not running an engine fan) so I dont want to take a risk not knowing if my engine is overheating without me knowing it. But look how pretty this looks!! ![]() thoughts?

Run the m42 one if you want. All the 24V boys use that radiator and those engines are much more powerfull and more prone to heat issues the m20 typically isnt. I would just run a half coolant half water mix if you arent already doing that

I am running half coolant/water.. I think I'm just going to go with the m20 rad, my bay isn't anything special anyway lol. Ive read up a lot about people having issues with bleeding the m42 rads, but I think it has something to do with them failing at life so idk

ETA rads are impossible to find!!!
if yours is AUTO get one out of a early 90's plymouth duster!!!! or dadge shadow (same thing) they fit great and all u need is a couple adapters from the hardware store (it would be alot easier if you just asked me these questions of Facebook man) when it comes to etas i kinda know everything (ps on the duster rad u need to trim off the clips that hold the electric fan to it so that it will fit between the fram rails and drill the mounting holes so that the BMW harward works, its really easy to do) and the duster rad COOLS way better then the bmw rad hence me not running a mech fan

Okayyy... would the m42 radiator leak or "overflow" when you fill coolant above the full line? All hoses are clamped fine, cap is on tight, and drain plug is snug, yet the radiator leaks a bit on the bottom. PO said it was not leaking at all when she had it. The level is above the full line, but didn't think it would be that big of a deal lol. School me.

leaking below the expansion tank ? almost like its coming out of the plastic between the overflow tank and the plastic side of the radiator ?

i had that problem on my m42 rad. i tried brand new o-rings, tried a new expansion tank and then i tried to silicone around the o-rings. nothing fixed the leak.

Weirdd.. someone from the e36 section informed me that same thing happened to their m42 and it was simply the fluid level. Said not to go past the cold fill line. Its worth giving a try
And Brandon, nahh I used an m20 rad before this, and just swapped in an m42.rad

the only time mine didnt leak was when there was almost no fluid in the reservoir. high level, normal level and even low level it still leaked.

Hmm, wonder if thats normal
.. Still dont understand why they used plastic components on radiators. But i'll play around with coolant levels today and see what happens. If it continues, i guess ill be throwing in my old radiator and throw in some sort of sealant to stop the slow leak it had.. Ugh

i just let mine leak till it stopped. of course then i had to check the level in the radiator all the time to make sure it still had fluid in it.

Might do that also
![]() If there's one thing I learned after owning a bmw for 4 years, is I dont think i will EVER feel comfortable with the cooling system on these cars.
