2007 X5 3.0 Water Pump Repair Cost?

My car broke down last night (46K miles) so I brought it to a BMW specialist this morning. He is charging me $650.19 for the electric water pump and Thermostat replacement plus the coolant and another $515.38 for the labor. All together i will pay him a total of $1300.86. Is this reasonable?

I would like to hear other X5 owners who are out of warranty who had the same experience how much it cost them?

Thank you for the information. I guess its within the ballpark figure since the Thermostat cost $111.94 and the labor charge for it is $187. But then again, this is from an Indy and not from the Dealership so I expect that the price should be much cheaper.

if it's out of warranty, look for a reputable indy shop. It will be a lot cheaper. You can buy your parts online.

Just becuase someone else is gretting screwed by a BMW dealer does not mean 'it is in the ballpark"...

I had both of the water pump and thermal stat replaced last September for $1297 part and labor for my old 2007 X5.

I got the car back last Friday night but while the car was in the shop, I called about 4 Dealerships since I wanted to know if the labor cost is reasonable. It turned out that my Indy mechanic charged me 7.5 hours of labor for both the engine pump and thermostat. However, the 4 dealerships quoted me between 4-4.5 hours of labor.

Armed with the new information, I called up my mechanic and asked him why he's charging me 7.5 hours while the 4 dealerships quoted me 4-4.5 hours of labor? I provided him the names of the dealerships and the quoted prices. He called them up and verified the information I told him. So I picked the car up, he only charged me 4 hours labor for $320. He flashed the radiator fluid and performed an oil change for free. All together, I paid, $1014 so I saved $300 from our agreed price.

Overall, I am happy with the turnout.
