Pandora without BMW Apps

Is it really possible to get pandora to work in the new X5's without buying the BMW App and then the cradle for the iPhone on-top of it? Any feedback would be appreciated. Dealer also says there is a way to see videos on the Nav screen.. That to me sounds like a stretch, any help appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, just set your X5 to play bluetooth for music in the settings. Then go to your Iphone or smartphone and select Pandora and hit play. It will stream over your car sound system. Works a treat. Who needs SiriusXM anymore unless you are out in the boonies with no cell connection.

Hmm without a wifi hotspot In a bimmer cannot see pandora working on an iPhone via 3G or 4g via Bluetooth? Guess you have to have verizon and not AT&T to make it work? Even in manhattan pandora won't work unless on wifi, that's not in the sticks. Thanks for advice

Videos can be shown on the display from DVD video as well as a iPhone if and only if you have the cradle (which requires the apps option)

For those having issues getting this to work with 3G, there is a setting - either n the app or n the general iPhone setup, I can't remember which - that allows you to pull data down over a 3G connection. If you don't have that switched the right way it will not work out of wifi range. I use pandora all of the time and it has replaced Sirius/XM for me too.

This can be confusing. The trick is to use a prong connection only (one in the phone, one in the car) for streamed media like Pandora. Do not connect the other port, which is for stored media, not streamed. Both work great once you figure it out, but not at the same time. Of course for streamed media you need a decent 3G connection. I find that Verizon is much better than AT&T.

This is an apps-related query.....am getting ready to order an X5, currently have a Blackberry but I suspect i will eventually get an iphone (ATT). Assuming I order the BMW apps but it remains unused for awhile, would this have any effect on a BB bluetooth connection. I'm just trying to figure out if once you get the BMW apps it becomes the only means of phone connection (and therefore Blackberry I have wont connect). On my wifes 528 (no Apps) the bluetooth is part of the setup on the Nav screen. Anybody have the Apps in preparation for a future Iphone?

I did exactly this. My wife and I both have android phones which work perfectly with the BT connection, but I wanted apps in case we decided to get iPhones in the future.

$250 is a fairly pretty cheap bet that the apps will expand and you'll be interested in utilizing it in the future.

My Pandora Works with my USB connection and I did not purchase the BMW apps. I do have some sort of tech package included. I can see the album displayed too. Kinda random though

Pandora without BMW Apps

Pair your current phone to test drive vehicle and see how it works. Should not be a problem unless you buy a pre oct 2010 E70. Then you will need the dreaded Y cable.

Yup...the dreaded Y-cable for me

My 2010 had a sept 2009 build date. I looked into retrofitting and it will cost me over $1000 to have BMW apps and google search.....is it worth it? I'm still sitting on the fence on this one. I can play pandora/iheartradio through the Y-cable. I don't see album covers but I can change tracks/stations via steering wheel buttons.

Do cars with built in BMW apps able to play pandora and google searches via bluetooth? Or do you still need the cradle adapter?

So, what do the BMW APPS really provide? I'm at the VIN lookup output of a vehicle and it doesn't list BMW APPS, but lists 'Control for Combos,' and 'USB/Audio interface.'. This is a '13.

There are about 5 or 6 apps that work with BMW specifically. Yelp, Pandora, Tune in Radio, BMW Connected(integrates Twitter and Facebook and has some other features) and a few others. I very rarely use the apps(iPhone 5). The current snap in adapter does not play sound(I tried and returned it) I connect my phone with the lightning cable to the USB plug in the center console and then have it mounted to the middle vent using a ProclipUSA solution. The big down side for me to using "BMW apps" is that the app has to be running and the phone must stay on(no sleep). For example, If I want to listen to Pandora I can't turn the phone off or go to another app while doing so(I also like using "Waze" to keep me alert of problems on the road ahead). The integration with Pandora to the car is great(skip, thumbs up/down, new station etc. all work with the controls in the car). So if I ordered my X5 again, I would skip this option.
