50i Arrived (Thanks Steve Thomas)

It's been a long ordeal, but the dealer Steve Thomas in California has been absolutely excellent. We weren't happy with the handling "feel" of the 35d (not AD) and they were troopers and took it back for the price we paid (it was used) and we then ordered a 50i with everything except (Lane Departure, AD, AS, Perforated Seats). Just a fantastic vehicle and love the "feel" of the handling (from an M5, Z4, etc. driver).

FYI, I was a little unimpressed with the Napa Leather fit. I've had Napa leather in other BMW's and on the X5 it's a little "lumpy" around the edges compared to those (i.e. 645, M5, Z4). The leather dash is great and really makes the X5 feel more premium. Glad I ordered as I was debating and was ok with the rubber dash.

If anyone is looking for a BMW in SoCal I'd make the drive to Steve Thomas (or if you are ok with doing the Performance Center delivery).

Nice! Congrats! I bet you will enjoy this ride for a long time.

Could you elaborate more on the "handling" of the x5d? You mentioned no AD but your 50i has no AD as well but you like the handling of it.

The suspension is stiffer and the amount of power steering assist on the 50i is much less (the steering is quite heavy). If I could have test driven the AD on the 50i I might have gone that route, but I only buy what I can test drive for something like handling.

This is all subjective, so just test drive them both and you'll see. Most dealers have a 35d and 50i without AD on the lot. It's with AD that's impossible to find on the lot. Sometimes I think BMW should force/encourage the dealer to keep one fully loaded demo on the lot...

NICE. Really jealous that you have paddle shifters. my 2012 50 did not have that available when I got mine. I love using the paddles on my 550 w/ SAT and with the power the 50 has, it would be fun to use the manual mode (an not the sluggish stick)

Although, I've always wished they offered the DCT.
