the gt is the north american avant, as we don't get the real avant. i don't think true wagons sell anymore in the 'land of the suv'. i agree though, the margin between the x6 and gt is thin.

i suspect after bmw sorts out the 2+2 segment (which the x6 was before 2012), one of these models may disappear. on the other hand. MB seems to have a zillion models, so BMW may be able to support and keep these niches alive.

Unfortunately, the GT has lower sales numbers than the outgoing wagon on a per variant basis. Maybe in the future we will have two GT variants and two wagon variants, rather than the current four and zero.

Small, technical point...What kind of shift knob do they put into the MSport manual? My 2002 has a nice wood/leather knob...

Leather covered; ///M background with the diagram of gears; NOT internally lit. (Apparently, only actual ///M cars get the lighted knob.)

Nissan GT-R costs a bit more but offers you much more.
