Exactly When Is My Diesel Engine Considered "Broken-In?"

I realize all engines are not created equal... however what is the average amount of miles driven before one can consider the diesel engine broken in. I would imagine miles per gallon would be at their peak then as well? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks All~

Wouldn't your owners manual cover that?? I recall it being 1,500 - 2,000 miles. And I'm not sure diesels are any different?
