Amex Platinum vs SPG Gold Preferred
What do you prefer for hotel reservations? Using the Amex Fine hotels and resorts via the AmEx platinum card or would you book via Starwood Preferred Guest using the Gold status that the Amex platinum cards gets you?
Just curious?

I book all Amex FHR reservations through Amex for several reasons:

Interesting, I have one hotel reserved through Amex FHR and the other through Starwood SPG both are LeMeridien hotels so we'll see if there is any difference was curious what others thought.

AMEX in a heartbeat.
Over the past few years, having status with Starwood has been nothing like it was even in 2007. Starwood does a great job of marketing to its members to make them think they cannot live without Starwood, but I've started staying in Hyatts/Hiltons a bit more, and their top tier is much better than Starwood Platinum. So I guess my recommendation is a combination of flexibility and not finding value in being an elite SPG member!

I have had more luck with my iPhone than using Platinum concierge, mostly because I would rather google something myself than pay a higher rate plus their fee (there was one the last time I used them, when I was stuck at IAD during a snowstorm). Their customer service is great, but even when I used them for soccer tickets in France, they didn't respond to me, the tickets sold out and I had no idea. They did however credit me for the costs of re-sold tickets.
