Haven't been on the forums in a while but I like this thread... Where the hell were all of you Touring lovers 10 years ago??? Wish something like this was around when I was an active post whore. Lol.
Anyhow, my ride turns 10 in a few days... Mar 02 build purchased in May of 2002. Damn... Time flies. Oh and btw, I converted to 6 speed 2 years ago... Gyeah!

A question for my touring brothers out there. I have been looking into upgrading the tailights (euro ver) on my car but have not done so due to the configuration of the US LCM where the brake and turn lights act as one. I actually had time today to play with NCS Expert and found the following trace.
![]() Has anyone out there tried to change these settings to see how the light output will change? Wondering if anyone out there has messed with these settings before. Also, there is a option for LED tail lights, so I guess I can just set to active for the celis type lights? While practicing with INPA found this screen as well. Shows rough on 2 cylinders but just changed plugs 3 weeks ago and car actually runs very smooth. Vanos readings are all within parameters as well. ![]() Try changing the plugs again? Maybe a coil or two? |

Haha! Classic 'lalaray' question there !
Which warrants the response; ![]() Also, why do you THINK the Touring models have been chosen? be interesting to see your response ! Cheers, Dennis! |

Four reasons:
#4. Not as many tourings as sedans. #3. My dogs told me to buy it. #2. My wife wanted an SUV. And the Number one reason......It hauls a ton of stuff, and has three pedals! Now I'm thinking about getting a 2003 540iT.

Finally pulled the trigger today and purchased these from Europe. Can't wait till they get here as I have been looking for a complete set of CELIS lights and a Euro LCM together for quite a while now. Still reaearching if it will be plug and play (probably not) or some extra coding/syncing will be required.

Just came across this thread. Haven't been active on the boards for a while, but was checkout out a thread for a friend selling his touring when I found this. Here is the link in case you are curious...
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=610873 Anyways, some good rides out there. I'm away from home in CO right now, so I can't post pics. Our Touring took us here quickly, averaging 76mph and 20.9 mpg for the trip over 805 miles one way. This trip reaffirmed that this car is indeed a tourer: fast, smooth, powerful, and comfortable. We fit everything in the hatch and still had plenty of room. Didn't bring snowboards or skis as we weren't sure how the snow was going to be, so that helped our mileage out as well. Good thing we didn't, as it was over 50 degrees here everyday and most of the good snow was gone. Our kids are still little so the rear seat isn't a big issue, but I suspect as they get older it may become more so. That will mean the wife will have to sell the Mazda 5 and get a real minivan or something else boring to drive. I actually debated selling the wagon recently. Idea was to help fund an e30M3 purchase, but I couldn't find a reasonable replacement for such a great car that can do so many things. Plus, I wouldn't get much money for it to put any significant dent in an m3 purchase, as I would still have to buy a car to haul the kiddos in and then pray there was some left over for something else. Not many cars I would want to have for 13-15k that can do what this car can. I know others have debated this same issue, but the end result for many is to just keep the touring. Will post up some pics and a narrative on its life when I get some time back home.

jayster0966- for your rough running. i would just move coil from cylinder 3 to cylinder 1 and see if the rough running moves with the coil. maybe do the same with the plug if the coil was not it. it could be an injector also.
as for the LCM, what year is your car? the LCM's are supposedly the same it is just the coding that is different and that can be changed by changing the ZCS or the VO depending on when the car was manufactured. i may have time to play with this this weekend. i have the euro lights already and do not like red turn signals. they should be yellow. that is how i have them now, they just look funny because the LCM is coded for NA. I completely agree with you. I did not want to spend the $$$ for the conversion, so I found my 528iT manual after looking for about 6 months.

My vehicle is a 00' E39 while all the parts for the light conversion are from a 02' Euro 525it. Have learned from another forum that best way to attack the retrofit process is read the EWS Vin and mileage and write to the LCM using BMW scanner 1.4.. Is this how you were planning on doing this or are you going to be using NCS Expert? Keep us posted on your programming progress. Maybe a DIY? Last edited by jayster0966; 04-02-2012 at 10:40 PM. |

from what i was reading the scanner just lets you know what to change on the ZCS for your car and the VO for my car to get the options you want, or the region you are looking for. the actual changing of the module/s will still need to occur in NCS Expert.
i think i have finally got my touring level since i got it using INPA. i am still not sure why on earth the PO had the driver's side .75" higher than the passenger side. the odd thing is that everyone i talked to said that this should not occur if the front was setup properly and equal. leveling the back would level the back only not the entire car. on my car it has leveled the entire car. the front and the back are now equal on both sides and all i did was change the settings for the rear. because of this i will probably have 2 Koni front shocks for sale shortly. Reefin Dude, Check the response on this thread. Look at post #80,81. What do you think, as the Euro LCM should already be programmed for separate turn & brake flashes.

i think what they were referring to is to get rid of the tamper dot. if you leave the LCM the way it is now you get the tamper dot. if you correct the tamper dot with your VO/ZCS you overwrite the euro LCM programing with the US programing in order to make the VO/ZCS match, getting rid of the tamper dot. at least that is how i understand it. in order to have the euro code, you must code all of the modules with a Euro VO/ZCS. hopefully i am wrong, but i can not see how in that discussion getting rid of the tamper dot will not recode the LCM to US spec.

According to other coding site if using BMW Scanner software it allows you to just transfer VIN and Mileage without transferring entire code.Supposedly the tamper dot is generated by the discrepancy in the mileage and VIN numbers. Getting mixed and confusing results the more I search.

i do not know this BMW Scanner software you speak of that connects to the car itself. the one i know of i though only help in figuring out what codes need to be changed in order to change the way the car behaves. once the code is figured out you needed to go into NCS Expert to actually do the changes.

I gotta hand to you guys, some of these Tourings look pretty mean (in the grocery store parking lot...lol). Nah just kidding, seriously though some of the pictures that are in this thread make me envy you guys. Wouldn't mind having one as a toy, but in reality I would have no use for a touring because I have a 4 door pickup truck.
Good job on making them look sweet though!!!
