Check Engine Light
Hi,
My2002 M5, with 35,000 miles on the clock, check engine light has been on quite a while now. The car runs fine. I took it to the dealer here in PHX and was told that either my cam sensors, the vanos solenoid or the entire vanos system needs to be overhauled. According to the tech the fault codes turned up more than 40 hits reporting vanos error and over 100 hits for the cam sensor. His recommendation was to replace the entire system and be done with it. This doesn't seem right to me. Any suggestions? |

Sounds like theyre trying to take you for a ride. It is common to have the CPS fail. Id find out which ones as theyre not cheap. As for the VANOS solenoid there is an aftermarket fix and diy for that. Check out drvanos.com. This issue is also well documented on m5board.com.

Buy a Peake Code Reader. Then go to the M5Board.com forum and post your codes.

Read the codes, CLEAR THEM. Drive. What comes back. This is important What maintenance has been done? You will probably need: vanos orings ($50 parts, 4 hours); a cps sensor or two, You might consider: mafs, plugs, O2 sensors, fuel filters...the low miles makes these less of a immediate recommendation. Go to the other board, it will save you THOUSANDS. A

My mechanic is in Phx and works on my M5s... give him a shout; Alex at Vaughan Motorworks 602.380.8262. He is a good and honest mechanic. I wouldn't own a M5 if it wasn't for Alex.

Hey guys i have a 2008 bmw 750i
I pulled an NO-NO. Last night i put gas in the car while the car was running. I then came back to the car and the engine light came on. Do u guys think me leaving the car running was the culprit? |
