Weird M42 rattle- start up (Video)

Hi fellas,

I noticed this weird start up about a week ago. It only happens overnight or when the car has been sitting for more than 5+ hours. It sounds like something scraping or rattling, any clues to what it is?

Sounds like vale lifters. (hydraulic) likely not a big deal.

Yeah, that's just your lifters making noise. Be certain that: A) you have enough oil in the crankcase, and B) you're using the correct oil viscosity.

If I check the oil in the crankcase and see that it is at the right amount and it still occurs, is it a big issue which needs to be addressed?

No, I wouldn't worry about it.

Sounds good. Thanks, it just sounded worrying to me.

A lot of brand new engines do this even. As long as it goes away within a few seconds, you're fine. But like I said, check your oil level and be certain you're using the correct viscosity.
