I'm in the same boat. There are numerous vendors selling AC compressors.
This link contains a list of vendors. http://www.bigcoupe.com/links.html My compressor has a slight leak but I am hesitant to convert to R134 as the R12 systems cool better. I have to add freon each year but a friend has a 35 lb bottle of R12 so I am probably going to keep my current compressor until the leak gets worse.

Are you guys looking for new or used?? Best bets, IMHO are Japanese compressors like a Seltec or Sanden. I have a used Sanden. I can't verify condition. It was on my car and ran, but car is being restored and I put in everything I could new. New compressor should run about $275. If you can't find one I can get Seltecs locally.
