Very nice. My old '08 and my current E91 is the same color. Very easy to maintain vs. black. It's not as good looking as black when clean.

The multi contour seat is the same as my previous car. I guess BMW likes to confuse people with different names.. ( sports seat, multi-contour seats ). I'm familiar with it
I insist that the dealer not put any stickers or badges on my car.

Yep, had jet black, black sapphire and deep sea blue and all 3 colors are nice "when clean" but it was a pain to keep up. I'm now going to take advantage of a easier / lighter color. I'm starting to really love Space Gray even more now

Enjoy. I've had space gray three in a row and wanted to try something different. Current X5 is black sapphire. I think I'll try platinum gray next time.

I understand.. having one particular color for several years is boring

Maybe it's because the X5 is new but I enjoy driving this more than I did my 5 series...

More.
Pics.
Now.!!!!!

I agree about the colors. My 550i is TiAg (light color) and my wife's (almost here) X5d is going to be Platinum Grey (dark color).
Before that, my E60 535i was carbon black (dark color) and my wifes MDX was silver (light color)
Before that my Ford Explorer was white (light color) and my wife's Passat wagon TDI was dark grey (dark color)

I'm starting to see a trend. I'll bet anything my next car will be a dark color and wife's will be a light color. Any takers?

Oh, the wait is killing me! But the phone line says production is done, waiting for the carrier. Just a few more days before it gets here in Illinois!!

Mein Auto: X5 35i Sport Activity
Supposed to pick up my 2013 X5 35i Sport Activity on Saturday. It will be sapphire black, with black interior. Very dull I know but I've had black on black cars for just about as long as I can remember. Will be replacing a 2010 Range Rover Sport which is too small inside as we now have a little one. Interesting that very few people here in the US (I'm originally from the UK) order these cars with the 20" wheel options. In the UK everyone buys the biggest wheels. I'll find out soon if I've made a mistake. I did notice that there are very few all season tire choices for that wheel size. Also, the pricing here is so much better than the UK. I spec'd a similar car on the UK configurator and it was about the same in Pounds as I'm paying in US$.

Couple of questions:

1. I didn't order the M Sport (didn't want the painted sills and wheel arches) so could order the power upgrade, but has anyone driven an X5 with the extra power? My RRS has a 5.0 V8 and 375bhp but is about a half second slower to 60 than the X5 35i so I didn't bother. But there are a couple of power upgrade chips in Europe offering about 370 bhp and similar lb ft of torque. Does anyone here have any experience of the similar products here?

2. I really wanted the M Sport steering wheel but it's also not available without the full M Sport package. Can anyone tell me what the feel of the steering wheel is like? I've heard that the standard car's steering wheel is really rough leather.

Look forward to sharing pics and experiences. First long trip is Up State next weekend for a wedding. Baptism of fire. Longest roadtrip yet with the baby.

Same here

Same with me, I have X5 Sport coming next week that has 20" wheels. I loved test driving that, but the concern over tire protection had me start another thread just a few minutes ago.

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=617158

Regarding M package - I drove that too as originally I was planning to get the Sport version with both M Sport and M performance options. The dealer happened to have a car just like that and I am glad I drove it - it is not for me. I love sporty cars, don't get me wrong, but that setup is for a race track, not for a family. I know I will get tired of engine roar and scratching my butt with asphalt (that's how the sport mode suspention feels like despite sitting pretty high) very quickly on any extensive road trip. Not to mention that my wife will be driving that car too. Again, that is my personal preference, no offense intended to people loving their X5Ms and similar - there are many reasons to.

So while extra power, rigid suspension and extra points on handling were cool, the rest that comes with it was not (at least to me, maybe I am getting old?) and I abandoned the M idea completely. Well, in a X5, that is

Regarding steering wheel - it feels about the same as "regular" but has paddle shifters and a "M" logo on it. The difference in feeling comes from the suspension rather than the wheel itself. The funny thing is that it does not come heated, while the one that comes with X5 sport has shifters, heat (with cold weather) but no logo. I thought it is kind of lame to put a M logo on the car that is not really an M, I am not a fan of cheap tricks. And I love the heated option, so the sport wheel is the best combo from that point of view.

Yep 334 it's not that bad in person. It didn't look good on pics. I was planning to switch it out but now I'm keeping it for now.

Yep 20" wheels will give me headaches that I don't feel like dealing with - pot hole swerving almost caused me an accident, bent/ cracked 3 rims hitting potholes, tire damage, high tire cost, all of these just doesn't work out for me over looks. 19" will handle just as similar with more rubber between the rim and asphalt for smoother ride.

My wife wanted 336 wheels because she thinks they look like flowers.

Absolutely not. I dislike diesels. Not my cup of tea.
