Dme reset after changing spark plugs

New to this forum...I have no mechanical experience but this weekend after taking my 06 x5 to a repair shop because the ses light came on they said the spark plugs needed to be changed and the dme reset...With some google help I did the spark plugs. Now the ses light is still on...do I need to go back to the repair shop to have the dme reset and the ses light turned off? I reset the inspection bar by holding in the left milage button and I also unplugged the negative side of the battery for at least 20 min...they charge around $100 to do the reset...do that sound about right? Also my sunroof suddenly stopped mid closure today...is that normal and will the dme reset get it back working...all advice is welcome...Thanks!

You could buy an OBD-II scanner (http://www.scantool.net/scan-tools/obdlink-sx.html). It'll read the codes your X5 is showing, and also clear the codes to make the SES light go off. Much cheaper than spending $100 each time the SES comes on.
The scanner software is very simple, plug-and-play nearly, and very self-explanatory. The website offers a 3 Year Warranty, 90 Money Back, and accepts PayPal.
I use the OBD-II for my X5, and I can clear the codes on mine within three clicks of the mouse.

As for your other questions, I'm not too mechanically inclined either so I'll let another member answer those.
