BMW CCA Rebate

Ok now that I'm back from my ED, I was going to file my BMW CCA rebate. It looks like I need a "European Delivery - Acceptance Receipt" but I think I left this in the packet that I gave to the guys at BLG Logistics when I turned in the car.

Is there any way that I can get a copy of this from BMW or is there any alternative documentation that I can send?

My wife and I are doing ED in June for a 335i. My wife is a BMWCCA member. We'll register the car in both our names and she would otherwise qualify for the $500 rebate from BMWCCA.

However, ED is saying only one name can be in their system and it is apparently my name they have input and they say they cannot change that. BMWCCA says because of this, my wife will not qualify for the $500 rebate.

Has anyone done ED with 2 names, and/or experienced a similar situation?

I have to admit, this doesn't seem right - we're both buying the car and registering in both of our names.

I agree, this doesn't seem fair. This is probably the reason that they are denying it: "If a CCA member co-signs for a vehicle with a non-CCA member, both must reside in the same household and all documents must contain the CCA member's name and signature."

Sorry i can't help with this issue. Seems like if the car registration has both names it should be fine but I don't make the rules.

As for my case (as the OP), I submitted my lease paperwork today to BMW CCA so we'll see if I get my $1500.

You can have more than one registered owner for a vehicle in California?

I had no idea. I knew you could have more than one registered driver, but not owner...

in short, "yes".

words are very important. wars and have waged over words.

in the case of california, the key word is whether it says "OR" or whether it says "AND"...both are completely different.

you can have 2 people as registered owners of a car but if it says "AND" then both owners much sign all docs when selling the car, etc. this is generally the case if one person doesn't have good credit, etc. (i.e. parent buying a car for a child).

if the word is "OR" then it's really a car that is registered to two independent people and each person can independently act on behalf of the car. e.g. if one person sells the car without the other person's signature, it's all good.

I'm curious as to whether you have an update or resolution to this situation. I'm also curious as to why you didn't just pay the $10 to become an associate member.

Question European Delivery - Acceptance Receipt

When and where does one receive the European Delivery - Acceptance Receipt?

Also if an associate's membership has lapsed, renewing less then tweleve months prior to delivery still does not allow that person to benefit from the rebate. Correct?

I guess what I'm questioning is: if it's less than tweleve months prior to delivery and the associates membership has lapsed, then a member would be better off to purchase/lease the car in the member's name only so as to ensure the rebate. Correct?

"A membership of one year or more immediately preceding the delivery date of the vehicle is required to take advantage of this program. A member in good standing cannot have any lapse in membership during that 12-month period"

http://www.bmwcca.org/vehicle_rebate

I would think that if the associate's membership has lapsed but the member's membership has not lapsed in the preceding 12-month period, you would still be OK if you were co-signers and both lived in the same household and as long as the member's name was on all of the documents. I would call them though at 1-800-878-9292 because they seem pretty strict about their interpretation of the rules.

I spoke with BMW CCA today. They informed me that is no problem receiving a rebate on joint ownership of a car with only one owner being a CCA member. They did say that when taking delivery of the car that the person taking delivery must be the one listed on all the documents. Not sure why that wouldn't be the case.

Probably because there have been instances where a husband bought a car but the wife picked it up, but wasn't listed, or a son picked it up and wasn't listed, and it became a mess.

Well, I was interested in finding out whether a71mg had a resolution to his particular problem but apparently he hasn't checked back in on this thread. He's only made one post in another thread since this one.

Based on the information posted by fitzmarl I don't understand why a71mg had a problem.

Getting my rebate was easier than getting my car registered, and my dealer dealt with the SC DMV for me. Mine is and "and/or" registration, whatever that is (co-owned by a trust), but I'm the CCA member and had no problems. I did send a copy of the acceptance receipt though.

No resolution. Seems BMWCCA and my CA do not speak the same language.

We are buying the car in California, registering is as me OR my wife (as described above). No need for associate membership since we both own the car. But with ED apparently, they can only input one name, even though we are both buying the car. Had we taken delivery of the car here in the US, there would be no problem since both our names would be there. The problem is that BMWCCA's strict rules do not jive with ED reality.

When we pay for the car just prior to going to Munich, both of our names will be on the sales contract. Does anyone know if BMW inputs both of our names as owners together with the VIN at that point in their internal system? Or does that happen when the car is redelivered stateside and registered in California with both our names on the title?

BMWCCA says submit whatever I have, include drivers licenses showing same address, explain the issue, and hope for the best. No guarantees.
