2 people Munich airport to BMW Welt, shuttle or Taxi?

Hi guys, I have a quick question here. Which option is cheaper for two people to go to BMW Welt from the Munich airport, shuttle or taxi?

Thanks
Francis

I don't think there is a shuttle service? Unless you mean Rolf?

S1 S-Bahn from airport to Moosach then Ubahn U3 to Olympia Zentrum(BMW Welt) NOT Olympia Einkaufs Zentrum. Buy a group fare ticket at any i (info) kiosk at Airport.

thanks for all your inputs.

By the way, I shuttle I mentioned early was from BMW website
"Munich Airport Shuttle Service - The company LOG IN OUT now offers a shuttle service from the Munich Airport to the BMW Welt or downtown Munich. A single fare costs 65 Euros.
"

I think I will just use the train/bus.

To second what has already been said, it is very easy to get to the Welt using the S-bahn and U-bahn. It should only take about 45 minutes total. I just did ED last week and the Munich public transportation system is extremely easy to understand and efficient.

The train is clean and fast. My daughter and I met several friendly local folks on the ride who were ever so happy to act as "tour guides" for our first visit to Germany!

Look into the partner tageskarte XXL to save even more on public transportation. You can buy it with a credit card at the DB ticket office in the airport.

What about luggage on the trains? Can't imaging it's easy to lug it around...

I took the train and I had baggage and lots of it, a wife and three kids. The luggage was no problem though. Same as navigating through an airport. Piece of cake.

They have elevators/escalators in the majority of instances. There's always a flight or two of stairs to negotiate. And most Europeans are tolerant. Just be considerate and polite - a few well used German words will come in handy. And you need to keep track of your party and number of bags etc. changing trains and getting on/off.

But if it's not something you want to manage, and the cost isn't a concern, a car/taxi can be well worth it after a long and tiring flight. Having said that, I've always found a way to manage, and I've always taken the train or airport bus.

When we came out of baggage claim/customs there was a ticket machine (2-3 actually) on the right hand side as we were still in the terminal and following the signs to the station. It took my US credit card without a hitch. IIRC we just punched in the stop we were going to (in our case not the Welt that day) and asked for the partner tageskarte and that was about it. There are also many machines on the train platform itself. The only thing to watch for is to be sure to enter the correct DATE for the ticket as the machines let you buy for future travel as well as the current day. If you'll be using the train system over several days there are also multi-day tickets available that are a good value, the only caution is that they aren't truly 24 hour days, but expire at 6:00am the next day.

If you are not going directly to BMW Welt you can take the Lufthansa Airport bus (10.50 Euro) http://www.airportbus-muenchen.de/cms/en/home/ To Munich North or the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) and take a taxi to your hotel. Taxi fare to most hotels would be about 10 Euro.

After a long flight, if you don't want to deal with having to push/pull your luggage and walking, etc. then I would recommend that you just take a taxi or book a ride with Rolf.

When traveling alone, I try to be frugal so I usually just take public transportation but if I'm with my wife and/or kid then I just go the most convenient way.

On my most recent ED, I also went from MUC directly to the Welt with my rolling carry-on in tow. I was travelling alone so the cheapest option was the S-Bahn/U-Bahn train. I bought the "airport-city day ticket" (11 euros) which is good for unlimited travel until 7am the following day. So I could use the ticket from MUC to the Welt, then from the Welt to my hotel. I also used it in the evening to go to Marienplatz and back to the hotel.

The subway in Munich is very easy... signs are very clear and they have the electronic display above the track which shows where the train is going. Also the ticket machine at the airport has an English language option. You won't have any issues.

Here's the info from MVV's website:

Depends on if you two only have carry on or a few more large check in baggage. If only Carry on, two people can buy SBahn ticket for $20 euros (Group), if you have 4 piece of baggage, getting a taxi or Rolf would be better
