Idiot Driver on the Skyline parkway

My wife and I drove to DC from KY, We decided to drive the Skyline parkway (part of the Blue Ridge parkway) in the VA Shenandoah Mountains. This is a 35 mph two lane narrow treelined ridgeline road with lots of pull-offs for scenic views.

Some idiot in a lowered, wide tired, carbon fibered with blue HIDs in dark gray e39 almost hit me as he was going around a blind curve at about 70 mph as I was leaving a scenic view pull-off. This is the kind of driver that gives BMW drivers a bad name. Terribly unsafe. I am still pissed 4 days later.

BTW, I drove a 4-cylinder rental Camry. What a bland car.

Lane Discipline is a growing problem...

I'm telling you, if things keep up the way they are, in ten years we'll all be driving like we're in Thailand where it's completely normal to cut two feet into the other lane when negotiating a corner. I've noticed more and more on the interstate with the younger freight truck drivers who think the only way around a corner is to dip low cutting into the apex of a corner. It's unsafe driving technique in every way, and pisses me off enough when it's a car, but it'll make you sh!t your shorts when it's 10 tons of iron gliding over the center-line.

I totally agree with you there about the Camry. I shuttled one from Florida to Michigan for a friend of the family. A fine car I suppose, but quite the vanilla driving experience.

rdc: Glad he missed! You should be PO'd, as would I be. I like a hot car as much as the next guy, but that's not why I got my e34 (although it will GO if I ask it to).

Thanks Guys. Part of my complaint with this guy was his disregard for the obvious safety issues. Similar issue with the Tail of the dragon road in North Carolina, but it is a regular road not a designated scenic drive.

Good thing you werent hit.

With the lower prices of E39's, E34's, and other models they have become affordable to people who probably shouldnt be driving them. Too many wanna be gangsters and young dumb kids behind the wheel. I have a 35km commute to work everyday and the stupidy i see from people is astounding.
