Very long waits at LHR Terminal 5
Long waits at LHR are in the news again. Over the last few days border control waits at Terminal 5 have been 3 hours. Other LHR terminals have had waits of up to 1 1/2 hours.
A group of Olympics officials were caught up in the queues earlier this week. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-17876496 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-17880415 Best to avoid Terminal 5.

There have been problems at other airports, most notably Birmingham, where 20 passengers stormed past passport control. The Sunday Times reported that police had to be called on Wednesday.

There has been an ongoing debate. Government ministers and the UK border agency says the wait times aren't nearly as bad as the press makes them out to be and that they are mostly meeting targets.
BAA (they operate LHR) disagrees and has made their own surveys public. The issue is highly politicised. -- Ministers going to Terminal 3 during a slow period for a photo op. "Look the lines are only 5 minutes long." Owner of British Airways going on talk shows. Unions complaining about staff cuts --- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-17937880 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-17913781

Industrial Action is scheduled for 10 May 2012.
Debbie is flying BOG->ATL->MAN arriving MAN on the 12th. Hopefully she won't have to spend hours waiting at Manchester.
