I found this to add to the conversation...apparently there will be some interesting changes made in the 2013 7.

I have a feeling that BMW is holding out on announcing the change so as not to cannibalize sales of existing dealer inventory as well as the last 2 months of 2012 production. The rumored horsepower bump would likely be enough to cause some buyers to wait. US dealers should have their July allocations now, but as of today BMW has not updated the order guides.

I think this is probably exactly what is going on. Good point. I would bet that they have more inventory than they thought they would have and thus we are exactly as you suggest.

Hmm...I was thinking that maybe they wanted to sell more of these existing cars and push back the reveal to a later time so that they could scalp the Mercedes S class redesign buyers...so maybe like a month before Merc announces/puts their new flagship out for the public?

Where is the high inventory? China? Germany? South Africa? What happens to those countries that have sold all their 7s in anticipation of the new car? Won't they not have anything to sell while other countries sell down their stock? I think they would be pretty pissed. And I doubt BMW AG wants to upset some folks like BMW China just because BMW NA or some other sales office can't get their act together.

I think the car just wasn't ready due to some component/development delay - or they just planned to launch it later in the first place.

I don't think they are changing the planned release date. I think it would only be the announcement of that date. That would mean that the countries that have low inventory will still get those cars on time but those with higher inventories might have a better chance of selling off those cars. Obviously, only BMW really knows this answer.

One other tell may be the lack of incentives. There are a few incentives on the F01 now, but not the "get them out of here" incentives that would indicate the new car coming.

2012 7 Incentives

I was just contacted by my local BMW dealer letting me know there is a $2500 incentive on all 7 series in May, but only on ordered vehicles.

That makes no sense - the $2500 option credit should be applicable to any 7 Series contracted this month. I've already had spoken to several dealers as I've been shopping around for a deal recently, and both offered to apply the $2500 to inventory cars.

I've actually been told by at least 3 dealers that the 2012 order bank is closed for 7 Series (if not all models, not sure about that) and any car I order at this point in time will be for July production as a MY 2013 vehicle.

Just my $0.02 from being in the midst of this as we speak, but I'd recommend to cross-check what this dealer told you about the incentive and if there may be some ulterior motive there.

$2500 option credit and leasing

FWIW, if you are looking to lease, this $2500 option credit is great but note that the residual has apparently dropped by 5%, effectively rendering the previous month deals without the $2500 incentive (now gone) better than the May deal with the incentive.

From your posts I presume you're not such a fan of the F01/02. I'm quite the opposite inasmuch as I hadn't even considered the 7 until this model.

I'm guessing August/September.

This only takes them about 1-3 hours from memory. They just need to upload the new software for the production line.

Say it's end of July east coast. That would likely mean SOP is mid June, give or take. They can also produce your car earlier and hold it. My 2012 was completed 1 month prior to my pickup in Munich.

Maybe I am asking a sensitive question and if I am, please excuse me...but why aren't you waiting for the 2013. You are so close.

Not a sensitive question. Two reasons: My lease is up (so I need this car on the west coast by a certain time) and we planned this trip late last year with special 2-for-1 first class air on BA using mileage thats nearly impossible to change now.

I briefly looked into changing it - but ED isn't even disclosing when the new 2013s will be available for pickup.

I'm not really worried about it. The deal I'm getting is fantastic. 62% residual (15k miles) with a .0019 MF. This car is more expensive - yet the monthly payment will go from $1598/mo. down to $1393/mo. Hard to complain about that.

Plus - who knows if we're really that close.

No, not completely; I do love the 7 series as a whole, but arguabley over the years BMW has tried some interesting twists with it. It's taken a little while for the new style to grow on me - although you do know I think the 5 fits it's skin better; however what I find annoying is recurring the issues I see posted about the car. When I browse the 5 forums I don't see allot of complaints with the new models, yet the 7 seems to be littered with minor issues that BMW doesn't always recognize.

It makes you start to wonder where their focus really is, and if the 5 and other lines get more attention then the 7 overall; I think they build this car to satisfy a sector but I do not feel it might take the priority at BMW it once did, and that makes me a bit sad. I might not be your typical 7 series buyer at age 39, but I do love the car and wish it captured more of BMW's design and reliablilty attention then it seemingly does; granted my 'budget' 750 is now 6 years old, but only 4 when I purchased, and it too as an e65 had it's own historic list of issues to educate myself on before purchasing.

When all of you here pay the premium for this car you shouldn't be going through these kind of issues nor have to fight with the dealer on them; at this stage of the game things like squeaks and rattles shouldn't be in the equation of issues, I'd expect more things technology related due to the new ground trying to be broken with the car.
