Which is sad, because in 5 years the 1 series (which is 3 series sized) will be 5 series sized, and so on.

Chad, we've had this talk. You're not supposed to set the other commuters on fire.

Not even when they're driving Scion's.

to throw in my 2 cents, i think that hyundai has done quite a bit lately in regards to really stepping up their game.

yeah, they'll still be branded a 'cheap' import car, but i can remember when the same was said for the civic and prelude. the accord wasn't much better, either...

as to exactly what the joint venture will be, who knows at this point in the game. as i understood it, this is still preliminary.

i think the genesis and equus got a lot of heads turning, and not just from consumers. will these models ever take away from the 5/7 series guys?? most likely not, as i am under the impression that hyundai is looking at the younger (read non-previous luxury car owners) buying group.

of course i would love to drive these guys back to back. (wouldn't *that* be a great marketing promotion for hyundai??)

and yeah, i agree that the 3 has moved up to what the 5 ued to be. and the 5 to the 7. but i think that happens with all of the cars. you have to remember that our chassis are about 20 years old. how big was the taurus?? how big is it now?? what about the jetta, accord, and sonata?? they all get bigger.

Yep, Hyundai is one of the brightest car companies out there at the moment. Their old stuff wasn't very good, but they can hardly be blamed since they were just learning the ropes. Their new stuff is very competitive.

In other news, I got the E34 back from the shop today with its new Koni sport adjustable shocks, Vogtland springs, M5 sways, and UUS SSK installed. It's a totally different creature now. WAAAAY better. It's rather incredible. It's finally being shipped to its owner (my close friend) on Monday.

But the e34 has so much more character.....

I have never had much affection for the e39's

I like me a clean 540i. I did a heater core in a 95 540i, and when I went to test drive it, I can sure tell you it didn't hesitate to get up and move. I've been in love since

I'll admit the E39 is a bit lacking in the character department, but I really don't find the E34 to be any better, and it's not nearly as good of a car as the E39.

Have you driven an E39 540i/6? Even better.

I haven't. Never had the opportunity.

If I had a choice between two equally equipped cars, one being an e34 and the other an e39, I'd take the e34. I absolutely love the headlight design, and the tail lights do it for me too. I mean, you don't buy a non M to be the fastest out there, do you?

i need help please! So i took my cluster out of my car to change the gauge bulbs...had to get the orange tint off for it to work. So i had to take the needles off also...no problem at all...i put everything back together and calibrate all 4 needles counter clockwise per DIY...rpms and temp gauge are working great, but gas gauge is bouncing and the speedo isnt working except for it jumping every once in a while. Ive been messing with it and searching for an answer for 3 hours! Any ideas? Thanks

Jesse, 2 things.

1.Are all your connections firmly in place?

2. Check ground points.

Ok so i sat here and spun them for like 50 turns each and now during test no more jumping so maybe the gears in needle hub were off...will drive tomorrow morning and see if fixed. Fingers crossed.

I like the look of the E34 but the interior quality is just as bad as the E36 and the front end is sucky to work on.

My buddy has a 91 M5 that's pretty badass, my roommate had a 535i that was a decent looker but not much to drive. It produced good power for its size and age but it was as refined as a tractor and handled like a mattress.

I'm with chad though, the e34 has the classic, old school bimmer look, but E39s are miles better to actually be in.
