Interior color is cool if your 65+ or love denim transfer on your side bolster.

Normally I would recommend a third party inspection, but since this is a certified model from a reputable BMW dealer, I wouldn't drive myself crazy over it. My car is a CPO and I didn't get a third party inspection. Never had major problems with it and now have 72K miles on the clock. Looking at the car fax on this model, there aren't any problems and corrections at all listed. Just checks and inspections. Of course, you will want to do a certain level of inspecting yourself for the usual possible E60 issues, like sunroof wind noise when driving, unusual noises, pulling and vibrating, unusual tire wear, water or dampness in the trunk, hesitation upon acceleration, solid braking and signs of recent painting (all though many dealers may repaint the bumpers due to nicks and parking lot marks (not an issue at all). Also, make sure the car has two key fobs. If not, make the dealer send you one as part of the deal. More than likely to sell the car he will.
Let me know if you need any other knowledgeable advice.

Thanks for your help. I imagine that since this car is still under fact warranty and maint, I could probably get a lot of that covered by BMW (assuming there is an issue?)

no factory warranty or maintenance left. if you want to know why, ask 2chill. he is too busy trying to prove everyone wrong and seems to have overlooked that. thats why the price is so low. youre welcome.

Ahh yes Carfax, the bible for the car's history...you've got to be kidding, right?

What the hell??? Do you have any idea what you're talking about? The car has 41K miles. Read the following from the car ad and get a clue....
__________________________________________________ ________________________
This Vehicle Is BMW Certified

Program Benefits: Comprehensive inspection and reconditioning, Return/exchange available, 24/7 roadside assistance, Trip-interruption services More details

Limited Warranty: 2-year/50,000-mile limited warranty plus balance of original 4-year/50,000-mile warranty More details
__________________________________________________ ________________________

In essence, even if the car was beyond it's original four years, the dealership is giving the buyer another limited warranty for 2 years or up to 50K miles on the odometer. Then the CPO warranty kicks in up to 100K miles. The car wasn't sold to the first customer until 8/08 which would be the in service date, so the car will have factory warranty & free maintenance until 8/2012.
All the '08's are falling into this catagory with the balance of the factory warranty nearing the end due to time, including the overpriced one's which individuals seem to be toting on, so I don't quite understand the senseless point here...

Sheesh!!!!

I don't think he means you stole the thing directly from him. He means you're using the same avatar he is, which is typically not done. The whole point of an avatar is so readers can tell who posted the thread w/ the briefest of glances.

So you should pick a unique avatar, IMHO.

OP: I paid $36k for a loaded 08 550i w/ 23k miles about a year ago, NOT CPO, then spent $3k on a warranty. I felt like it was a very good deal. So....if you take 36+3 less 5-6 for a year and the attendant miles going by....I'd be looking to pay around $33-34 for a CPO, or a little bit more if I were willing to get just an average deal.

I agree, that's a great color. I have the priority 1 7-series leather w/ perforations in some sort of buttery-beige color I'm not even sure what you call it, but I like it MASSIVELY more than the black in my last one, which tends to look faded immediately and is hot, and just too much black on a black car. Black on Black is great in a Porche but it's too much in a bigger car, IMO. Of course, Auburn was the best interior color ever, sadly not offered anymore.

A 7 is not a sport sedan, so it works better. In a 5, its out of place.

+1 Danna. I can see you're a smart and educated shopper also. Right now one can always get the same 550 w/o CPO in the low 30K range. Then buy an aftermarket warranty for around 3K and still have a CPO equivalent vehicle for just under 35K, like the car in this thread. Alot of people think the car being a CPO is an "end all-be all" part of a deal. CPO is just another extended warranty. Nothing more, nothing less.

+100! Beige interiors actually sell better than the black. Beige is more inviting to look at and are more sort after vs black which can become downright depressing, especially when you don't have a light trim to accent it. My last car had an all black interior. I was happy to find my current one in beige as I was tired of feeling like I was driving around in a damn coffin! You do have to keep up on the beige more, but if you're not lazy, then it's no problem. I apply leather cleaner to my seats regularly and they still look brand new to this day.

i read the date it arrived as the in service date. my fault, was looking too quickly. there would be a couple of months left on the factory warranty and maintenance.

The only thing really irking me about this car is that the according to the carfax, the third and most recent owner had it for only 25 days!!! That seems just downright weird to me...

If it's any consolation, I would bet that the third owner is actually the dealership that took it in. Sometimes they stupidly register the car and it shows up as an additional owner. Another reason Carfax can be very misleading.

Bottom line is that to the average person looking, it appears as three owners, hence the decrease in value.

The condition of the car and service history should be the two things that make you buy it or walk away, not necessarily the # of owners.

I was able to find a very similarly equipped, one owner vehicle with 5k less miles (different color combo, space gray, black interior, black headliner) locally. However, factory warranty has expired. I can purchase an extended warranty and after all is said and done, this vehicle will cost me around the same as this CPO, albeit the extended warranty has a longer term.

Any thoughts on a new jersey CPO vs a 1 owner florida car with a route 66 "easy street" warranty?

Okay, I'm finally on the same page as Chelseafc. I also suspect that the "third" owner was not really an owner but rather a dealer. The mileage difference is only 119, so it's highly unlikely that the third owner would have found the car to be such a disaster that he gave it up after only 119 miles and less than a month of ownership especially with a seemingly spotless record. Another scenario if it was a real owner was that he/she just couldn't afford the car and had to return it under a return/exchange program which is listed in the current ad.

Fzutel, can you post a link to the 1 owner Florida car?

I just recently (March) bought a CPO 2009 550 from a dealer in CT for 39k. It has a great assortment or options. Sport package, sat, iPod and logic7. Best of all it had 27k miles. So as mentioned before it really depends on the location and market at the time.

i was just in the same boat as you... looking for a 2008 CPO 550i and after going to a BMW dealership to verify warranty and CPO status on cars found on cars.com and cargurus.com i ended up buying a non-cpo 2009 for $34k and paid $3k for extended warranty.

please verify warranty on any car you are about to purchase through a bmw dealership or somewhere as even carfax was incorrect. Also have the dealer you are buying the CPO from print out the warranty status.

good luck!
