Price Check: 1989 325i 5spd w/ freshly rebuilt 2.7L

Hi.

The 89 325i sold a few hours before I was on my way to see it. The seller said he sold it for $4k.

I appreciate all the comments.

Now, I'm looking at an 87 328e that has an S52 swap with obd1 conversion. The car has 108k, original e30 transmission, the engine has 75k, new e30 brakes, new stage-3 clutch, no a/c (this sucks), m3 steering rack, oem recaro seats, oem LSD, minor rust on rockers.... Asking $6500, but over the phone said he would sell for $5k.

Thoughts?
I'm thinking the degree of rust is a huge factor in it's price.

Well.. not sure exactly the going rate for an e30 in chi-town, but I know in cincy I paid $1100 for mine... 153k documented No rust, clean interior, no leaks. I had to do a brake job and few other things. Im just thinking even 4k sounds a bit steep for something that could have 500k miles and could be held together with rubber bands. I say drive it like you stole it on the test drive and see if you feel, hear, see, smell anything weird. just do your homework before dropping that much for a 89 E30.

Steer clear. The 2.5 motor is better then the 2.7 motor.

I think it a 2.7L stroker not an eta motor sir. And at $4K it is priced right for a well kept car that may have only small unnoticeable cracks in the dashboard and minor seat wear no tears or rips. Requiring less than $500 in upkeep.

At $4K, I'd consider it...

But, he is asking $5K? Well... that is known as free speech... you can ask whatever you want... lol

I just wouldnt want to pay that much for that car. My budget is around $1,500-1,800 for one.

Even if the motor isnt the eta, and it is a 2.7L stroker, that could justify the price but mileage is unknown, which means that the "free speech" comment above refers to more than just the asking price.

I'm going to look at my prospective car tomorrow and if the odo doesn't work, i'm offering him half, even though "the previous owner was a mechanic." It seems like every single second hand car was owned by a mechanic or somebody who's dad "has a 'shop". I'm original owner of my E34 and I can document and prove it, I'd expect the same courtesy from a seller; don't just talk at me.

" previous owner was a mechanic" frequently means they had to be, since the car required constant attention......

I found mine on Craigslist for $100. Almost a dime a dozen atleast around me. I only replaced mine because the sychro's were starting to get "iffy" for second. Couldn't shift as fast as I wanted.
