E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

Idle Problem 1988 325is

Hey guys maybe you can help me out here.
Recently picked up an '88 E30 and I'm very happy with my purchase. Just trying to iron out some issues.

My main issue now is that the car drives and runs well as long as you shift it perfectly, however if you pop the clutch or release the clutch too quickly, the car seems to lose power and even with the pedal to the floor it does not accelerate and the idle becomes very rough. Fast forward a couple minutes and the car will turn over fine, spark up and stall out instantly, the problem seems to go away after anywhere from 5-60 minutes.

As I said it's a 1988 325is with the inline 6 and about 205000km on it, if anyone else has this issue or knows how to fix it it'd be greatly appreciated.

Hey Mate - same thing happened to me - it was after heavy rain and i sprayed a fair amount of CRC (Aerosol that disperses liquid - not sure what its called over there?) in and around spark plugs and distributer. Never had the problem since.

Could be plenty of other things but worked for me...worth a try.

did you check ecu fault codes ?, engine off, key to run position, pump gas pedal 5 times to the floor and let go, it should flash fault codes then.

it could also be as easy as a failing fuel pump relay, or pump, or very dirty fuel filter.
