Wind noise from the sunroof

I got a question. When I have my sunroof closed and the headliner slide out cover open - I hear a wind blowing as if there was a air leak. When I close it - its gone. I put the fingers in there but there is no air coming in. Is it possible that the BMW has such a bad air flow and its not air-o-dynamic that I hear the wing blazing over the car?? I have a friend that had 3 E66s in the past and he says its normal. Once you close the sliding headliner - no more noise.

Is that the same story in your cars. My MB never had that problem and it didnt even have the sliding headliner. It was a Pano roof.

Some guys have had good results changing the sunroof seal although they say the noise returns after some time.

Change the seal - $30 part from your dealer, takes about 30 minutes to do.

lol....straight from the showroom floor?? lol

BTW, $30 part at the daler. Ok. Easy to change by yourself? Or should I let them do it?

When you say 'the seal' - is it the one on the window piece or the one on the roof panel piece? There are 2 seals.

I've heard of using tape to pinpoint the seal. Tape it up, drive, and if it sounds better replace the applicable seal.

Sorry, I was talking about the seal on the sunroof opening. If you do a search on here you should come across a thread or two with the part number and a description of how to do it. It's an easy procedure, and if you take your time doing it you'll likely be very happy with the results. Make sure to reinitialize the sunroof at some point afterward (this procedure is also in one of the other threads).

Had mine changed today.
Part numbers are, 54107245551 and 54852. Parts were $54.95, labor $255.00.
Bought the car a month ago CPO, CPO checklist had checked that both sun roof and wind noise were ok, wonder if they ever really inspect or just go down the row and check off all the boxes?
