Just go for it!! It's our first convertible and it's addictive !! If I don't drive it everyday I have withdrawals. Very fast, zippy , almost becomes an extension of you ... My X5 feels like a behemoth after driving this.

This is very comfy and that's coming from someone who appreciates a comfy Audi/Lexus drive. We drove 2100 miles in Europe after ED ( Germany, Switzerland, France ) and another 1200 miles from PCD in u.s. Long drives are not tiring at all. If anything getting in and out is more painful, and the limited truck space can be annoying. We are taking another road trip to VA ( 2200 miles) on memorial day.

Best thing is top down smooth ride( get a wind screen from Bavarian auto so wife is happy about no messy hair) . It's less than 30 seconds for top down and up . Driving from Nice to Monte Carlo on the high corniche with top down was one of our best drives!!!

Go for it, you won't regret it

Just to be sure, I would do a small lease (24 months) , that's what we did and now after this I will do another Z4

I hear that. We live in a rural village and bought our car from a dealer 62 miles away.

I've got a couple of minor issues but keep putting off getting them fixed. I don't really want to give up a vacation day just to get the iPod interface fixed.

I love my 2007 Z4 3.0si. Soft top, but I know it could only be better with a hard top! I have the sport suspension, 18" offset wheels, M sport seats and a great sound system. I definitely recommend the sport suspension, with the caveat that you swap the run flats with standard tires. I did that and bought the M Mobility kit just in case. MUCH better ride, handles like a dream.

I am now thinking about the new Mini Roadster for the future. Can't get it out of my mind! Cute, larger trunk, $36k for top line version (210hp, 260 tq I think?). Gets 36 mpg combined! Someday!

Also, that part of NM is so beautiful. I am jealous! I lived in Albuquerque 13 years ago and still have family there. I hope to retire in the Angel Fire area some day, close to great skiing, mountain biking and scenery.

Again, thank you so much for your help and advice Andrew. I have often dreamed about living in a small village in the UK, just one of my many fantasy's. We have visited the UK, but it was about 100 years ago. Loved it dearly.

Oh and BTW we are looking a the auto tranny.

Thanks for the help ssfun. We have driven along the Rivera several times, but that was about 100 years ago.

Let me comment that the ride on the Z4 is not harsh. It is not Lexus-like either. I've been driving a Porsche Boxster for the past 27 months and am saying good-bye partly because of the hard ride. The Z4 is definitely a solid ride and holds the twisties with plenty of throttle quite well. My Melbourne Red 35i just made it across the pond and is due at my dealer in a couple of weeks - am very much looking forward to the "trade"!

And do get the sport package - the Z4 suspension is NOT affected by this option, but you get the much more comfy and adjustable seats with this choice.. along with sharper looking wheels, etc.

I'll be 62 this year and have a growing low back problem that is not happy with P-car drives, but the Z4 (I've done much driving in one) is much, much less harsh.

The only other concern is the very modest amount of trunk space. Lots of threads on that one - and a couple of soft duffle-like bags will work, but just be aware of that. As far as the 180-mile distance to the dealership.... just have it put in writing that they will not only offer you a loaner if service is needed, but see about having them sweeten the deal because of your inconvenience should you need to get back there other than the once/year free maintenance visits.

Oh - and that oversize pic below is me picking up my 2011 e91 at the Performance Center Delivery last year - If you order your Z4, you might want to do that too... it is a significant blast and an experience you won't forget.

Good luck.

Doug

Thank you Doug. Very helpful. Several people have recommend the Sport Package. And yes, I will probably have to order one.

70 isn't over the hill (or under it)! I'm not quite there yet and I've had my Z3 since 1998. Only take it out on nice days to blow the dust off! But with the retractable hard top the new Z4s can easily be everyday drives.

52 here, still climbing high mountains in expeditions and enjoying life as much as I can, and my Z4 is a good chunk of it in the summer in Michigan.

We are both 58 and bought a '09 garage queen a couple of weeks ago and I will say that this is as much fun as we've had in a car in a long time. Even the dog loves it! It's a little cozy with both of us and a full grown Belgium Malinois in the car but I don't think we could get out the door without her now! Anyone know where to get a good set of doggles? LOL!

Z4 35is

BOT MY FIRST Z WHEN I WAS 64. I AM ON MY THIRD, A 35IS AND JUST TURNED 78. I'VE ALSO HAD A DINAN STAGE 2 DOWNLOAD AND IT IS AWSOME. I HAVEN'T HAD THE NERVE TO FLOOR IT FROM A DEAD STOP, BUT IT IS FAAAAAST. I HAVE NO PROBLEMS AT 78 WITH IT. I'M IN GOOD SHAPE AND I FIND IT COMFORTABLE, ALTHOUGH A MITE HARD TO GET IN AND OUT OF, BUT ONCE THERE, WHAT A RIDE.

This "age" business is of course so much related to mental attitude. If you feel younger, you will be, in so many important respects. Do this, and don't overthink it. My '15 Z4 is pure fun whenever I drive it, and has enough versatility for a broad range of uses. I leased it on a whim, but was surprised at how viable it is compared to earlier Porsches or Alfas I have owned.
