Exhaust question

I searched and found little insight into my question. I try not to ask too many questions and search as much as possible, but I'm stumped. I currently removed my exhaust from the cat-back and straight piped it. I was told by a friend that my piston rings would be in danger now. Is this true?

He said that they weren't designed for all the chatter. I told him that a clogged exhaust or converter might cause it but not the straight pipe...he disagreed...but what does he know, he drives a honda lol
