Front drive shaft

Where the hell can I find a front drive shaft for my 05 x3 other then the dealer? Looking for a remanufactured rather then used but I would take used over dealer price($700). I have a bad u-joint and it's non serviceable.

if you go to www.furiousmethod.com , you can get a whole lot of prices for this, all of which are lower in cost than dealer. Not as low as used, but $150-$200 less than dealer.

And another option, good for part numbers and pieces.

I had the same thing happen to me early this year...

Ended up having my mechanic look for a used part. It was approx ~$450 and he only charged me one hour of labor to install.

I did (at the time) wish there were a good place to find used/remanufactured parts like that though...

Unless one wants to go through the hassles of sending one off to be rebuilt, or buying rebuilt and having to send yours back to redeem the core charge..... We are pretty much stuck with buying from the dealer. Drive shafts are easily damaged in accidents so you really have to be careful getting one from a junkyard.

Tischer has mine for $684.00 with no core. That's probably about as good as they can be found new.

Ended up buying new, got military discount. Picked up in Jacksonville FL rather then Orlando. It was almost $300 cheaper!! Final cost after tax was $732

My X3 front shaft went out about a month ago... took it to the dealer and have not gone back after they gave me a price of over a thosand dollars to fix the problem. After calling around I came across a company that specializes in drive shafts and I was able to score a brand new front sshaft for my x3 with replaceable u joints for only $350. Drive shaft was received by my mechanic and to his surprise after hearing the price, it was "Excellent quality" "Better than the original"... Glad to say after install drive shaft works great and my X3 is running the way a BMW should.

why are people replacing them? I noticed on mine a few months back that it looked like it had needle bearings, and that they were somewhat exposed and possible falling out. didn't investigate much further, but I fear it may be time soon.
