Additional Storage Compartment for the X5

I wish the X5 had the same dash compartment my 550i has (picture below). I had a 2010 VW JSW TDI and you can buy additional storage for it in the form of a drawer for under the seat or a dash cubby:

Is there something similar for our X5s? I've searched with no luck.

That must be new with the F10 since my E60 didn't have that. It's possible the next generation will follow all the other F series interior and exterior. I wonder if the new X3 has this?

I find it very useful in my F10.

Is that to the left of the steering wheel? What do you use that compartment for? I've always only used it for coins. And what is that button on top of the compartment?

Thanks for the comments but does anyone have any idea of whether or not there is a similar offering for the X5? I checked with one BMW dealer and they told me they have never seen anything like it. I will post the same question in some of the other forums that seem to have more European members.

To answer the questions: It's a super useful compartment that takes items much bigger than coins and it is left of the steering wheel. A big wallet/checkbook or big sunglasses or other similar items can fit there. The button above it is the on/off switch for the HUD and similar butttons would appear next to it for some other features like Active Blind Spot Detection, Collision warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Night Vision with pedestrian detection.

No this is not on the X5. In fact, I had forgotten it is there on the 550i...I had to go out to the car and check. I haven't ever used it but I will start. The tradeoff is that the F10 has a very small (but lockable) center storage console. They make up for it with this extra one on the dash, although those two combined give you less interior storage than the X5. BUT, the X5 comes with the phone integration in the center console, which takes up a lot of space and decreases access quite a bit.

I was about to post on this. I don't plan on intergrating my phone to the center consol storage area so I was trying to figure out how to remove this piece.. Do you have any ideas?

As far as I know, there is no way to do it. I did end up integrating my phone and I like the features, but I wish they had come up with a better solution for the placement. The storage compartment was vastly better and easier to access on my '08 4.8i without the phone integration.
