apple white or BMW 'y' cable ?

HI. I have a late 2010 model with pro nav and would like to know what is the difference between the std white ipod cable (i can skip tracks using the car's own back/fwd buttons) and the much more expensive black BMW 'y' cable-will the BMW enable me to do more ? Thanks.

No difference in my car, a September, 2010 build with iPod adapter option.

Set the right screen display to "entertainment details" to get that screen to present album art. Full screen album art is not available. Use the arrow buttons on the right of the present buttons to jump to the next track. Use the "options" button on the iDrive to turn on or off the "random" setting. When set to "random" on the arrow buttons will randomly set the next track. The left arrow button will replay the current track. I don't know about the USB interface in the absence of the iPod adapter option. Give it a try and see what happens. In my car I noticed that the music quality was better with the single USB interface than with the "Y" connector.
