Question guys... Can I delete my CCV and replace with oil catch can? Without throwing a code? Or does the CCV thinger double as a vacuum control for the engine?

In other news.....just got back from Amber's house. I went over (400 mile round trip) to deliver some of the extra parts she got with the E30 and couldn't fit them in her car for the trip home Wednesday. One of the parts was a new windshield. I put padding in the trunk, placed the windshield carefully on it, then wasn't satisfied with the way it was secured, so I moved it a bit. HUGE mistake. The glass edge hit the edge of one of the spare fenders I had in the trunk, and POP....instant crack all the way across the glass. No more windshield. I've got to find another windshield to replace that one. I wasn't looking forward to installing that glass, but I wouldn't have broken it to get out of it. I felt pretty bad about it. Amber was sweet and told me don't worry about it, but I do.

Amber's friend Boomer and I worked on replacing a lot of the vacuum hoses, and used good stainless steel worm-gear clamps on the new hoses. When that was done we Seafoamed the engine. Then we worked on the throttle cable. It had a mile of slop, but if you adjusted it to remove the slack and have instant throttle reaction, the cable would hang up and leave the throttle half-open. We tried two or three things to get it freed up, and when i suggested we lube the cable from the drivers compartment end, we found what the problem was. The dogleg rod that runs from the gas pedal to the throttle cable had come out of the hanger on the pedal end. Pressing the pedal down all the way to the floor would open the throttle about 60%, and it took a long pedal movement before the throttle showed any reaction. We put the rod back in the hanger, put a hose clamp on the inboard side of the opposite hanger to keep the rod from moving sideways again, and readjusted the throttle. WOW, what a difference! INSTANT throttle response, and instant return to idle when your foot comes off the pedal. It also revs a lot better/higher. Boomer and I wanted to go drifting, but Killjoy Amber wouldn't let us.

Next job: replace the steering shaft flex disk and universals. WAY too much free play in it now.
Yeah, that dude is hilarious. Some of his stuff is offensive, but I guess you have to be if you wanna be funny.

Nice work on the engine. I know how you feel about the glass. I was trying to remove a window for someone and forgot the little screw was still in it. Pulled it the wrong way and it shattered.

Hi Guys....

How is everyone? Hope all is well...sorry to be away for so long...work was crazy ((I was travelling every week to MN), then I went away on vacation.

Life here is okay. The 'snowmobile' is home and had it's first checkup. After $1k in known repairs (hoses, oil filter housing, etc) Mechanic said it's in good shape. Still need to fix one area of rust which I found out about after I got it home (on the rear passenger rocker panel, stupid sunroof) and fix the sunroof clip..and maybe replace the shift bushings...but otherwise it's a fun car to drive. Gas mileage kinda sucks tho.

Now I have to change the motor on the convertible top. Anyone near Boston want to help out?

Otherwise, what's new?

Jen

Hiya Jen. Long time no see!

Nothing much is new with me except the engine in my car blew. I've got an S52 now, though. So it's all good.

Just had a cool idea, you know how top gear has awesome cheap car challenges? We should have a cheap bimmer challenge for Bimmerfest.

Give 3 people a grand to buy and fix a BMW of their choice, an then drive it cross country to Bimmerfest...

Epic. I think Jon should give us the money for this and document it like an episode of top gear lol

Or give west coast guys a $1000, and east coast guys $1000. And whoever can make it to the opposite bimmerfest the quickest, or maybe least money spent to travel(gas, repairs) wins.

Pretty sure you could turn that into an awesome movie.

Just got home from the Performance and Style show, it was great!

Met lots of cool guys, and lots of douches too lol. Only a handful of other E36s there out of around a thousand cars (guesstimate)

Tried to pick some highway pulls on the way home, nothing Not even a nice STI wanted to run.

450whp is a lot usually a 120+ trap

stage two sti should be cake for you, I ran one that was putting down 340whp and he had me by a fender 20-130
