NYC'ers

Question as I'm preparing to pick up my ride in the next few weeks, did you get your Bimmer from BMW Manhattan and if so, did you get the tire/wheel insurance? If so, how much off MSRP did you pick it up for? My sales guy is a real ass clown so I want to make sure I have as much intel as I can.

Don't pay a buck more than $1000 over invoice. Get the invoice price on Edmunds. If you can't get a good deal in NYC just buy your car here in Pittsburgh and drive it to NY. They still have to service it at the NY dealer. Send me a private message if you want more info about getting the car in Pittsburgh.

Paid $850 on Long Island. For NYC streets I would seriously consider the insurance.

If you're not getting the 40 profile tires on 19" rims I'd pass on it. I have the "regular" 18" rims with Conti SSR RFT's and have 11,500 miles without so much as a scratch. And living in NYC I've hit more than my fair share of potholes.

you talking about the purchase price of the car? That's already done and negotiated I ended up right there. I'm talking about the tire and wheel insurance.

Yep I'm getting stock rims on a 528xi - did not go sport.

If at all possible, make sure you get the conti tires and not the Good Year. I ask my dealer to swap out the GY tires as a condition of purchase.

We got extorted by the greedy dealership for tire and wheel, but 13 tires later the $1250 was worth it. There are serious serious issues with the Goodyears, but if you only have the stock rims on a 528 I think you'll have less to worry about.

I paid $600 below invoice for my 550 M Sport build. PM me and I'll tell you where I went.

Regarding tires: I intend to get a +1 tire size(245/45/r19) upon delivery. Several users on this forum have described how pleased they were with +1 size tires for their msport 550.

I hit tons of pot holes, I'm actually at the service center now replacing a tire for my father's 2011 550 sport package because it has a bubble (this is the third tire in one year and he has LOW mileage). I am bringing my 135i in right after I drop his car off for him because I have a flat front left tire (this is about #8 for me 22k miles later).

I never had wheel damage, so that's good.

With the stock 17" wheels on the 528i xDrive you should be fine without the insurance. Of course always some risk but I would just consider it self insuring.

Problems are really on the 19" 245/40x19 Goodyear LS2 all season. That is a very different story.

You are correct. I replaced the RFTs with Michelin Pilot Sport AS Plus tires (conventional tires--not RFTs) with sidewalls one size talker than OEM size (245/45/19--stock is 245/40/19). This tire and size is perfect for NYC's potholed roads -- no bubbles . The plus sized sidewall also smoothes out the ride although turn in with the OEM run flats with the normal sidewall size was a bit sharper.

If i can score the thing for 1200 then I think i'll get it. Is that a good deal at 1200 and is workable? If it's anything above it seems running the risk is probably better given my smaller stock rims. Since I bought the car I think i'm going to pony up for the extra 2 years coverage as well (I plan to keep until warranty is done).

With the regular 17" rims I think you're going to be wasting your money.

You said you were getting stock rims on a 528xi so i don't think you'll need the tire package unless you purposely plan on hitting potholes lol. There hasn't been much of an issue for 528 buyers with the tires because they run on 18 inch rims instead of the 19 inch problematic ones. You really don't need the tire insurance but you can get it for peace of mind.
