If automotive comradery is what you're after hunt down a Saab. When/if you come across another one on the road it'll be like you found a long lost family member.

LOL! There it is! The chip-on-shoulder aesthetically-speaking-Napoleon-Complex of a 5 GT owner (or ex).

Fascinating as to how defensive you guys get over a car you apparently find "attractive'. I'm damn happy to look at mine, even with the Taxi sign.

mpress:
Your Pops has good taste. And you are both very right, M-B's are exceptional Taxi's. I just spent a couple of weeks throughout Europe, where anecdotally M-B still enjoys the "cachet superiority factor" whilst being the Taxi of choice. It truly is a testament to the brand, and them being used as Taxi's is a positive, as Taxi drivers have choices in what cars they purchase, and need utmost durability, reliability, and comfort (my Cousin is a Paris Taxi driver who just ordered a W212 )

Interesting subject about one who buys a "controversial" car to avoid being "one of the masses". I find myself to be one who likes to think against the herd as well, but when it comes to cars, or any art form (design) for that matter, I judge as to what entices my senses most. If everyone buys a car, it's a technical testament to it. If people find one ugly, yet a select few adore it, does it make them think against the herd, or just like unattractive things?

Anyway, all in good fun.

I have noticed that I'm never pissed off if I nice 550i cuts me off which happens an awful lot. I just say dam I wish I had a 550i (I drive 540i6) but if a new 528i cuts me off Im like my car is 10 years old it will kill your car. Just because its a new BMW doesnt make it better or faster than me who do you think you are.

I had a 01 Z06 for 4 years, loved the wave and still have many friends from those days.

When I'm driving my GT 550 M sport Dinan Stage 2, with Eisenmann exhaust with over 510 hp...with 0-60 times in the mid 4s...so until the new M5 is on the road..not much can wave and run...
I wave at M5 drivers amazed that they cut keep up either in straights or curves and when they do they are amazed... I do this while my back seat passengers are rejoicing in comfort, Front passengers are amazed and how calm125mph can feel, and how quiet and amazing the ride the GT affords them is...and me i am happy to wave at those thousands of 5 series sedan owners that all look alike as i drive by them...

oh and when I'm at home depot loading as much into my GT as i used to fit in my X5..i wave to the 5 series sedan guys renting the home depot $19.99 an hour trucks...

oh and by the way all of us GTers wave to each other because we like the old days are not just one of thousands with look alines on the road....

for the record Gt's are now the number two requested car by dealership GMs just behind 6's...

Much love for MPs setup. What a stunning combo you have.

Even after 4k miles, every time I drive our plain jane 535i GT, I am in love.

I can only dream about the endorphin producing experience that your S2 550i GT provides!

As the GT-Rs, Porsche Turbos pass you buy without need to change lanes at all.

Dunderhi,
Yea Dinan claims the GT550 with S2 should be in the 3.7-3.9 range, i think its more like 4-4.2 just based on comp to my 911...Havent really played with it since adding the Eisenmann exhaust it could be in the mis to upper 3s...taking ill be up at montecello race track n two weeks weather permitting and i will see what the numbers actually are.....

The F10 550 xDrive is good for 3.8 seconds by my test results. With no other driveline differences other than the larger tire diameter, the 530lb heavier F07 550 xDrive should make it into the low to mid 4's while the RWD F07's should make it down to the mid fours, so I think you where right the first time. Dinan might have been basing their 3-7-3.9claims off my results.

What power do you think you are getting from Eisenmann system? Dinan includes another software tune with their exhaust system and that only nets 10hp. The N63 is hurting for more air in the 500hp region, so exhaust gains might not be much of anything until we get a hi-flow air intake system.

That is correct, since I keep right except to pass even while cruising at 150mph.

I had them do the eisenmann tune... of course din an says 10-15hp increase, and eisenmann says 20 Splitting hairs at best... but i definitly noticed a free flow through in all gears at lower revs... Gas mileage increased about 1mpg after the exhaust change (i did sport not race)
Overall i wouldn't be surprised if under perfect conditions the GT is breaking the 4 second barrier... certainly made the car into what i wanted it to be and how the 550 should be tuned on delivery.... As a gt fan i would nt mind seeing an M version down the road, certainly more appropriate in my mind then the M version of the x6......

I would like to experiment with slightly stiffer springs... I would like to be able to turn comfort plus into comfort, comfort into current sport mode, current sport mode into a stiffer overall ride......

I put Dinan springs on my car and really like the handling enhancement. Lighter wheels and non-RFTs also make a big difference.

waiting to hear back from Dinan regarding springs for the GT they are not the same as those on the 5 sedan.... my dealer said he won't put them on until he gets more info.. Did you notice a major difference with the din an springs?? does it stiffen the car "1 level "
