Problems with car starting

What should I do? My car won't start when I first turn the ignition. It takes atleast 1 to 3 times before the car will turn on. My car was working perfectly fine until i had to replace the fuel pump and since than, my car just won't start right away. I've also changed the spark plugs and fuel pump regulator hoping that would solve the problem. The engine sounds like it doesn't seem to be getting enough gas.

I had a similar problem with an Opel Astra a number of years ago in South Africa. The fuel pump had failed and was replaced. After this replacement the car needed to be cranked 3 separate times before it would start. After much head scratching by the technician I asked whether there was a non-return valve in the fuel system. It transpired there was and it was inside the fuel pump housing. Replacing the new fuel pump with another one resolved the issue.
