Stone chips - remediation

Hi all

Just wondered if anyone had used any form of BMW touch-up pens to mop up their stone chips? I seen the thread of chip guards (those plastic sheets that don't really appeal to me), but after having driven for a while (in particular past a few bloody grit trucks over winter which I blame for my plight) I have a few stone chips on the front bumper/fender and also the bonnet/hood :-)

I used to have a mercedes which I had a touch up brush for, but to be honest it probably looked just as bad after application (even with me buying a finer brush to apply).

Anyone had similar chips and solved? Respraying is not a viable option (yet).

John

I use touch up from Halfords, for small chips it's easy to make it invisible - or at least it is with my colour....it will depend on the colour of your X3.

Mine's Sapphire Black, I know that Carbon Black is not as easy to match but for stone chips it'll probably be fine. I apply it carefully using the thin pen nozzle and the next day lightly smooth it with T-cut.

I had the 3M installed on my car but it's too soon to see if it'll protect the X3 as well as my last two cars.

The front end of the X3 (bumper and wind shield) seems to be a real magnet for bugs/stones possibly because of the upright design.

jgroarke, just wondering how the body areas behind the wheels are holding up from the rocks and grit that is kicked up. Since you have carbon black you have the Msport and no mudflaps. I don't have the Msport and just installed mudflaps to try to prevent grit and rocks from hitting the lower sides of the doors that is painted. Also to keep the car a little cleaner too.
