E91 PDC delivery on 7/9

I have a few questions pertaining to transportation of the car before delivery:

I've read in a few posts that the PDC doesn't take possession of the cars until around 8 days before delivery. Is this still true?
Since I won't be taking delivery of my car until the 2nd week of July, where will my car be stored until it gets transferred to the PDC?

I also was curious about which port it's brought in from. I have the vessel name and have been tracking it across the water. It's scheduled to arrive Baltimore on May 20th. Is that the port where it will be unloaded?

Are there BMW personnel at the ports when the cars are unloaded? How are they unloaded?

I'm just very curious about all the behind-the-scenes stuff you never hear about.
I imagine sitting in the car during it's voyage and wondering what type of adventure it goes on before I see it for the first time at PDC.

Thank you for your time and answers.

There are a lot of variables that will determine what port the vehicle will be off loaded at. Basically a vehicle destined for PCD can go to any east coast port (Jersey, Baltimore, Charleston or Brunswick). BMW has a Vehicle Distribution Center (VDC) at all of those ports except for Charleston. Vehicles shipped to Charleston are off loaded and then scheduled for a train to rail them to the VDC located at the BMW factory across the road from us.

If a vehicle arrives earlier than anticipated, it will wait at the VDC until the trucking company is assigned a move request to transport it from the VDC to our facility. We try to have the vehicles shipped to us about 2 weeks out from the delivery date to give us time to get it scheduled in the shop to be prepped and detailed in time.

I believe some Bimmerfest members on the west coast toured the Oxnard VDC and posted an article on it sometime last year. You can probably do a search and find it for a little more information on the VDC.

Hope that helps

Thanks for your info, Jonathan!

One other question: Does BMW ship all the cars with a protective film on the paint that I've seen other manufacturers do? If so, does it stay on the car until it's prepped at the PDC's shop?

Again, thank you for your help!

You're welcome...

Currently, cars coming into the US are covered with a wax product called cosmoline. It is removed from the vehicle when processed at the VDC via heat and recyled to be used again.

They tested the white wrap stuff on the top surfaces for a while, but it was causing more issues with the clear than it was preventing.

If I were to give you the VIN, is there a way for you to find out which port it's being shipped to? The vessel was in Brunswick yesterday, but it's stopping in Charleston today. I'm curious which port it's going to.

Thanks!

I'm almost positive it's Charleston.

Send me a PM with your VIN and I can verify.
