New checkpoint procedures start this weekend (age dependent)

New Security Procedures Start This Weekend at Airport Checkpoints

With the unofficial start of summer come this weekend, new procedures will go into place at the nation’s airports, but you have to have be 75 years or older to take advantage of them.

Starting this weekend, passengers 75 years of age and older will benefit from less scrutiny at security checkpoints. This means that anyone born in 1937 or before will no longer have to remove his shoes or jacket …

From what I was told, the clerks will take the word of passengers on age and NOT ask for proof but go based on "if the look old."

Of course, this could lead to people coloring their hair grey and all kinds of things...

This worries me in a world full of freaks of all ages.

Slightly off topic, UK border agents are now doing full checks on all non-EU people entering the UK.

Debbie had her biometrics checked last week. Agent told her 100% checks were now standard procedure. I'm not sure if they are doing that for everyone or just for multiple-entry visa holders.

I hope not.


They check fingerprints along with eye and facial features. UK passports include biometric data on a chip.


Our nearly 10 year old US passports don't have biometrics. We both had to submit a full set of fingerprints and photos with our visa application. The UK govt. stores them on a server keyed to our visas.

Newer US passports have a biometric data but I don't think it includes fingerprints.

Just a reminder that you can't always trust profiling to catch terrorists. Remember the story of Leila Kahled and TWA 840. My favorite bit was that the first British immigration officer to interrogate her after her botched second hijacking (El Al 219) asked her why she did not have a valid visa.

(I won't even go into what the Israeli sky marshals on LY219 thought when the Brits made them turn Kahlid over to British immigration and law enforcement.)
