Car Starts Without Key !!!!
Hi Guys,
I contacted the old owner on my one month old 2008 528I if he had a spare key for my car that came with one key. The car wasn't purchased directly from the old owner. It was got from the auction. I was lucky to find the old owners address in the glove compartment. To my surprise he sent me an FOB without the key in it. The weird thing is the FOB starts the car without the key inserted in it. I even made sure that my old keys was not around or inside the car. I drove the car with only the FOB around my block to be sure am far from the original key. My question is can the key start with only the FOB without the key. Or is the key somewhere in the car that i don't know of. There is no spare in the glove compartment where the adapter is. I'll appreciate if someone can solve this mystery for me. I had initially contacted the stealer for a replacement and was told it will cost me $700 including programming because car had comfort access. The two FOB with me now does not have a battery compartment at the back which is usually the case with a key with CA. |

It does not have a black plastic key in it.
Just read somewhere that the key is just to open the door and trunk. It does not have to be in the FOB to start the car. I guess that solves my mystery. I can just buy the blank(ebay) and cut the key for the trunk and doors. Thanks |
