Anybody seen an “Individual Steering wheel” in real life?

Ok, I could use some Bimmerfest expertise:

I ordered a 2012 650i Convertible with the “BMW Individual Composition Package” option which runs several thousands of dollars and includes GREAT leather, shadow line trim, Illuminated door-sill and some other goodies.
According to this document from BMWUSA I am also to receive an “Individual Steering Wheel” but when I picked up my car at the Weld, it had a standard steering wheel.

http://cache.bmwusa.com/Pdf_a403354c...Specs/DOT.aspx

I thought that strange, as one of the tradeoff’s with the “Individual” options is you could not get the “Cold Weather Package” because the wood inlay steering wheel could not be heated. However now I neither have the wood inlay wheel or the heated wheel. And for an extra $6,000 no less!

The dealer claims that BMW does not provide the “Individual wooden inlay for leather steering wheel” even though their documentation from BMWUSA clearly says it does. But it does not seem to be on the ordering documents and they say such a wheel cannot even be ordered for a 2012 650i in the USA.

Thoughts?? Has anyone ever seen one in the USA on a 650?

You are completely right. Something must have gotten screwed up along the production line. Everything you said in your previous post is consistent with my understanding of the Individual Package and the associated steering wheel. The only time I've seen the Individual interior without the wood inlay wheel is in the case of the M6 and the 6GC fitted with the M Sport Package, in which case the car has a special steering wheel particular to the model.

I'd be at my dealer talking to my CA and GM, and if they didn't do anything about it, then I'd call BMW NA and keep asking for supervisors until you get some answers. I can't believe they wouldn't just own up to that mistake and order you the correct wheel. The normal wheel, in my opinion, just feels less substantial and less comfortable than the M Sport Package's steering wheel. I've never seen in person/felt the Individual wheel, but it seems the be more substantial than the normal wheel - similar to the ///M sans the heating + the wood inlay.

You paid a ridiculous amount of money for that package, so they shouldn't be hassling you about it. Make sure for all of us 2012ers recently screwed by BMW that they don't get away with this where your car is not consistent with any of the information regarding that package.

What Southern said. If it's in the documentation, push for it. The Germans always make it right.

Here are a few pics of an Individual at my dealership. I took these a while ago but it's the best I can do. It too, appears to have a standard Steering wheel. No, wood inlay and I dont believe there is a metal "Individual" tag at the bottom of the wheel. Can't tell if it has the heated steering wheel though but there is no mention of it or cold weather package on the sticker. Did you get the cold weather package or did they say it was not available with Individual? BMW keeps f*ckin up. This is BS man. Sorry.

I just looked at the BYO site, and I can't find the wood inlay steering wheel. Idk what happened. They must have changed it at some point. Here's a pic I've had for a while, and it clearly shows the wood inlay.

I can't believe they did this. They cut he illuminated door sills from the M Sport Package and the wood inlay from the Individual Package - complete BS. I did see the wheel on the 2013 information, so I really have no idea what is going on with this...

This wheel doesn't have the aluminum trim on it either. The pic I took does.

Weird stuff. I wonder if BMW even knows or cares how many people they have pissed off with the F12/13 already.

Those F30 people got all the love and attention. At least they made our cars fast and pretty before they stopped caring.

I called the 1 Series a luxury go cart equivalent to party favors, you imply that the F30s ride the short bus, and Jonny called the 7er a boat.

We're such an arrogant bunch of a$$ holes! lol.

Russ, have you gone back and looked at your original order paperwork to see if there is any mention of it? Your situation is really bugging me. If the order shows it, then I think you can definitely get it from them. If its not on there, then it may just be one of those jack a$$ moves that BMW has been making lately. The wood inlay is all over the media pics, brochure, and 2012 ordering guide. I never really considered the Individual package as they wouldn't let me combine it with M Sport, so I haven't looked at the 2012 order sheets for the package. I guess I assumed since it was featured in every Individual car I saw online/in print. The soft-close doors are also in the main F12/13 brochure, so I don't think that alone can be used as a bargaining chip - I'm sure there's done disclaimer somewhere in there about the pics not representing all markets or some type of legal BS.

I hope they make this right for you. I really hate that they did this to you.

Seems to me like BMW is working to p!ss away it's exclusivity by perfecting the bread and butter cars at the cost of the higher end vehicles. I feel that this is going to come back and bite them in the future if they keep screwing $100k buyers. I understand the business sense of having the 1er and 3er to generate revenue that opens funds that improve cars across the line, but they need to hold onto the 6er, 7er, M customers to keep BMW from becoming too common. I'd hate to see the day that BMW is a slightly more expensive, better driving Mazda. The sheer number of 3ers, X5s, etc. was almost enough of a reason for me to look to Porsche or Jaguar as their badges are much more exclusive in general. I was okay with the F13 as the name 6er still means something, and I pray that doesn't change.

I guess that was my long way of staying that it's stupid of BMW to screw customers buying a frivolous (I mean that as a good thing ) $7700 package to add to their $100k flagship luxury coupes.

Hahaha. Completely wrong, but I'll give it credit for making me LOL

Probably some 15 year old kid with an ///M keychain and BMW jacket who one day dreams of owning an M3 circa 1995

I have 2 versions of the 6 Series brochure. One of them is from the link you provided. The second version does not appear to make any mention of the wood inlay at all. Weird. Perhaps they made a change somewhere? That doesn't necessarily make it any more palatable however.

These are the two borchures I have. The former is the older one for just the convertible, and it doesn't mention things like M Sport, full LEDs, B&O, etc. The latter is more complete and includes the coupe with the options added last fall (i.e. the ones I just mentioned). The second brochure shows a picture of the wood inlay wheel on the page talking about the Individual composition.

So many 328's/528's around here. Making all of the BMW models look so similar to one another doesn't help us stand out too much either. 3 years ago the differences in the 7/6/5/3 were pretty striking - now they're just stretched and widened versions of one another with different grill dimensions.

Standing out wasn't one of the reasons I purchased the vehicle, but when your entire neighborhood is overrun by BMWs and Benzs sometimes you want to set yourself apart to some degree.

+1

Southern doesn't really have that problem but the above is the reason why I am doing cosmetic mods to my car. Nothing crazy, just a lil something to set it apart.

How many F12/13s do you see? Are there really that many of them in the bigger cities?

Yes - I am starting to see them all over. A 100k car isn't abnormal in Los Angeles.
