That looks pretty nice! I'm not a fan of that style of wheel, but the finish turned out great. I'm considering doing this to mine, but will probably wait till I get new tires.

Would love to know how they hold up over time.

Don't think there's any reason to be nervous. I'm sure you've seen the youtube vid of how easy that stuff is to remove. Worst case, it doesn't hold up well and you really like the black - which means you'll have to pay somebody $400-500 to powdercoat them.

As long as you don't screw up the suspension I have no comments.

Funny and true. I put some new wheels on the X3, decided to go with the factory 18s and stagger them as listed in our owner's manual. 235/50/18 and 255/45/18.

My dealer is telling me because of this I need a new transfer case, it is skipping and grinding. 55K miles. 4th BMW .......beyond belief IMO. $4500 repair.

F BMW

PS- Service Manager told me the manual is generic and not really meant to imply those tire sizes are right for the car. Page 94 in case you check yourself.

Not to thread hijack, but have you changed your T/C fluid yet? I just changed mine at 66k miles and it's a huge difference! I was getting a pretty heavy clunk when lightly accelerating and turning at the same time. It would also jerk pretty bad at low speeds if I let off the gas. I have the standard square 17s, but did drive it a few times with a way too small donut tire. The x3 sure didn't like that.

Put in new BMW T/C fluid and it feels like I put in a brand new transfer case. Give that a shot before dropping any dough at the dealer.

Good luck.

gzep dont even think of doing that in NJ you will get pulled over instantly. I was getting 15% all around as well but my neighbor is a cop and said it is not even worth it because you will have to spend more money to remove it from the front windows. backs are fine but fronts are a no-no in nj

Differences in the outside diameter of your tires front-to-rear is bad for an AWD vehicle's t-case. In your case a 10% differential in diameter. Your SA isn't blowing smoke.

True about the diameter difference being bad, but where are you coming up with the 10%? A 235/50 and a 255/45 are about 1% different, I believe. http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp.

Plastidip was a real pain to get off after probably 6 months of having it on. At that point it had been so faded looking.
