It is hidden in the Z4, there are posts in the Z4 forurm on how to find it, but your best bet is to get it from the dealer. It is between the trunk carpet and the speaker box on the left side of the car.

Also with top down, you have to drive under 35 MPH to be heard. I do not drive with the top up so not sure how it works with the top up.

So,I did some more searching and found this post from 2005.Took the battery out of my phone for 5 minutes,re-paired and everything is fine, address book downloaded.
I had a problem that I couldn't pair my phone no matter what I tried so finally I disconnected the TCU Unit for 30 minutes and then it paired up for me but I could never get the address book to come up. Now I'll have to try removing the phone battery and see what happens.

I had a Motorola Droid for a couple of years with my X3. It would connect, but never on it's own. I always had to power cycle the phone every time I got in the car. It drove me crazy so I finally gave up thinking it was a problem with the X3 (the phone worked well in my old Acura TL). Then my kids both got iphones which I tried to pair up with the X3...BAM.. no problem worked perfectly. I tried another Motorola at Verizon store and had the same problem as the droid.. Would pair but wouldn't connect on it's own. I just changed over to a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Voila' it works perfectly in the X3. I'm convinced this is a Motorola compatibility issue. It's nice to have my Bluetooth back!

After my Moto XT720 disappeared during a trip to Madrid Spain last year, I got an iPhone. Tried to pair with the X3 and viola! success.

Minor problem is that it only downloads the "favorites" Phone book but who cares, they are favorites for a reason.

Cheers

BT pairing

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions.

I just back from the dealer who was not able to pair my wife's Motorola K1. They were able to make my iPhone 3Gs connect however. He thought only one phone at a time could be connected-wrong!

I followed one of the suggestions on the website; take out the phone battery and try again. It worked like a charm.

Now, if only the dealers would know that rick! Maybe I'll tell the service writer???

Cool Pass Key location for 2006 Z4

I found a module, located behind the speaker, behind the drivers seat, with a "PK number". I believe it is the Pass Key, for Blue Tooth, but as yet I have not suceeded in pairing. The module has an ESN number, and I am pretty sure its the code...Anyway, if you want it, move the drivers seat full forward/up, out of the way as far as possible. Use a flat blade screw driver, and remove the large oval-ish speaker grill, use a flashlite, look behind the speaker, through the hole... it's upside down... starts with 'PK:'____, 4 digits, good luck, let us know if this helps, Mark

The TCU is always in pairing mode for the first 60s of turing on the vehicle.
The ULF you need to hold down a sneezing man button as you turn on the vehicle then release after a few seconds to enter BT PAIRING.
