Preventative Maintenance

I have a code for replacing the auxiliary water pump. I also notice that the heater does not get very hot. My car is a 2004 745i. Since it is 8 years old and has 83k I figured that I need to replace the water pump, thermostat, all hoses, and both belts. I am also going to replace the pulleys since these are wear and tear items. I can buy all of the parts and do it myself for about $800. Is this a good price and recommended? All parts are oem BMW with the exception of the water pump being Graf with the metal impeller. I am on the fence on replacing the water valve which is connected to the auxiliary water pump. I would hate to replace the pump and that not fix my heat problem. It is $96 of this total. I used furiousmethod.com to check prices on all parts. TheBMWpartsstore.com is the cheapest on everything except the water pump, aux water pump, and belts. AutohauseAz is cheapest on the water pump and belts. Anyone use this vendor before. Just curious whether you guys think this is overkill or not and if you have used these parts vendors before? I am on the fence to sell and move up to the 2008 model but had rather wait to purchase a newer model. If I do all of this work then I will have to keep her at least another year or two.

Autohausaz is one of my favorites because of free dhipping on orders > 50$. Oembimmerparts.com is also a great vendor. The owner, max has also recently added free shipping.

While you have everything apart is the best time to change it since its off the car anyway. Belts, hoses and the water pump i would def change.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to buy my water pump and belts from them. I have never replaced a water pump before but the DIY does not look too bad.

I figure you are right. If I already have the coolant drained to do the aux water pump then I might as well do all the hoses and water pump also....probably cheap insurance in the long run. I know the miles are lower than normal for doing this but the parts being 8 years old can't be good for them, especially the hoses.
