@oneinfantryguy - do you mean a road test so they can verify the issues with the car (like throttle tip-in) before getting the global update? If yes, then yes, I'd say plenty of us have tried that and have driven with Service Advisors and the Techs, but honestly, that's typically not a good thing. The issues are not easy to replicate, I feel like it's clearer when people are actually driving it a couple days, so they can see what we mean. I'd recommend sticking to the story of throttle tip-in delay, rough/inconsistent starts in the morning with throttle fluctuation and mention the fact that there is a Service Bulletin out there that you know for a fact that others have used to successfully fix the issue.

So I complained on here about having a weird jerky feeling in sport mode in 1st and 2nd gear. It seemed like I was the only one with this problem until I saw another person post it. Anyways, I brought it to the dealer and they only reset the adaptations, which didn't do anything for that issue and I still felt a slight delay on takeoff. So I tried a throttle reset hoping that would work. Wow, it helped a lot with thetake off delay but still had that jerky in 1st and 2nd. So I was able to duplicate it to the foreman and now my car is in the shop. They said they are putting my car to test and will also communicate with the BMW engineers to see if they could find any problems. I hope they it because I didn't have that problem until after the global update.

Thanks, hope you got an answer and let me know.

I have been busy on work and don't have a chance to go back to my SA yet.

After many weeks, this issue is still there........getting better, but not fixed.

550i global update?

can anyone comment on if they had this done on their 550i? Seems like these issues are largely to address issues on 528/535i's.

if so what are clues / reasons the dealer will perform this for the 550i?

Thanks !

I tried to get the update in my 550 but they said the SIB is not for our cars. I complained about everything they talked about in this thread and they did not find anything wrong. Honestly there's nothing really wrong with the car I just wanted the update with tighter steering.

I did the oil change today and had them check out my TPMS. They said I have he original factory TPMS and factory stems. They don't see anything irregular about it. They didn't understand why the tire temperature and pressure wasn't reporting. They offered me a global software update to eliminate those blank fields completely but I declined since I am already on the latest software.

So the dealership will update your software for features that were not displayed originally?

No they were saying that it's not unusual for people to have issues with the detailed TPMS readout. They said the newer cars and software eliminated the detailed readings for this reason. So they offered to update it to the latest f10 software which has no temperature or pressure readings.

They clearly had no idea that my car wasn't supposed to have this detailed display.

Why would BMW offer this software capable of additional information and functions, but turn these off? It just makes no sense to me...but I am not a bright bulb!!

BMW feels that only Motorsport Model drivers like extra information, and luxury model drivers prefer less information.

That's why M drivers get more info in HUD, and more vehicle info like tire pressure and temperature.

Their logic is that unless you are driving hard, you only need to know if tires have enough pressure, not exact pressure and temperature.

So these features are not displayed in the M-sport models, but only in the M5, M6, etc models?

My 2011 535xi is at the dealership now. When I called for an update the service advisor said the tech told him that the reason for the idle surging was the K&N drop-in air filter was letting in too much air. He then told me the car would be ready for pick-up in about an hour. He called back five minutes later and told me they were going to go ahead and reprogram the car, as I had mentioned the day before as a possible fix when I dropped the car off, and that it would be ready around 4pm (2.5 hrs later). The K&N excuse is total BS in my opinion. As far as the call back five minutes later maybe the tech had decided to do the reprogram and the service advisor was unaware. Or maybe the service advisor called the tech and asked him to just do the reprogram since I was clearly unhappy on the phone and he was worried about getting all 5s on the review. Doesn't the reprogram take more than 2.5 hrs?

In the US, Yes.

Overseas everyone gets tire data.

However in general worldwide M drivers have more information and more easily accessible than the rest of us.

They did it on my car, but alas, the throttle delay and jerkiness at low speed is now fully back. I can't wait to get rid of this piece of sh!t....

Amen, brother ... I'm so tired of this car as well. My only concern is that I think that this is a spread-out issue ... BMWs are now just softer, the 8HP transmission I think is at fault (you'll notice that the updated 2013 7-series comes out with a "revised 8-speed transmission"). I'm not sure if I left the 5-series that I could stick with BMW given the overall shift away from being the finest driver's cars out there to some big, luxury-laden boat.

Wasn't able to take my car in because of a down poor but i was able to reset my throttle response by holding down the pedal. Thanks to everyone for the information. Right now, the car is running strong. I will agree with the wanting to get rid of this car. I am so disappointed in it and i,m sorry i didn't get an Audi. This is my 3rd BMW and I will probably not get another one. Not sure whats going on in BMW world but its a disgrace that with all theses issues, they didn't step up for us and tackle the problems head on. Instead, BMW enthusiast and the use of forums like this one handle issues that a multi billion dollar car manufacture wants to hide from. Shame on you BMW.

Always loved BMW and really loved my 07 335i. The fastest car i ever had and handled like a race car. It was the reason I stayed with bimmer. I do love my 5 series. Stock, my 335i would destroy my new 5 and there is the reason i am so pissed. Not surprising that Dinan is having so many problems trying to come up with soft wear to upgrade the 5. All the 3,s have upgrades. sounds suspect to me.

I understood the 550i engine did not have the issue of the 535i F10.

No, 550's have had the same issues, there was a claim that the update did not apply- but it does...
