what's the deal with MACO and Training fees?

Hi, I'm getting ready to place an order for a car and negotiating deals relative to the Invoice price. On the BMW Wholesale Pricing Guide it lists a separate Training Service Fee. After speaking with a couple of dealers, it seems that there is another fee called the MACO fee for national advertising. Is this MACO fee included in the base Invoice price or in addition to?

Typically when negotiating a deal around the Invoice price, are these fees upon the buyer in addition to the agreed upon price above "Invoice"? How do those costs get captured in the negotiation process?

Thanks.

Yes those fees are on top of what you've negotiated. You should find out ahead of time what their "other fees" are. Include those when comparing with deal from another dealer. Typically it's $350.
I don't know about "Training Service Fee".
There is a separate documentation fee for license plates, etc.

Apparently, not all dealers charge the MACO fee - think it depends on whether the dealership participates in the regional ad I got a quote from the Palm Springs IM who said they don't have the MACO fee. The training fee is apparently what BMWNA charges the dealers which is then on the dealer's invoice - not sure what this training fee is for

Correct. Not all dealers participate in BMWNA's advertising program. Regarding the training fee; though some CAs may make this difficult to believe, BMWNA provides A LOT of corporate product training for CAs. Unfortunately they are limited to the people the dealerships hire as CAs.

A monkey could spend a half hour on bimmerfest and come away with more useful information than a person spending a day with the average CA.
