How do you synch the top motor on a 2001 325ci

The dogear on my top broke and was pressed between the top framing and the upper interior ledge near the back window. Well, the top would not close all the way (about 2" away from closing) and that is not good. I disengaged the top motor using the button on the black box in between the rear seats. Then I used the hex wrench to fully close the top. So, I now need to re-synch my motor for the top. I saw a clip on the E36 but do not know if the procedure is the same for the E46. Can anyone help with some instructions on how to synch my top motor(s). Thank you tmwtf

pulled out the allen wrench and put it in the keyhole next to the emergency button, and cranked it. The button "popped" back up, and then I pushed the top open button; and it sucked down. Then pushed top close and things worked as they should.

I am experiencing the same problem. How do I reset the motors after I pushed the emergency release button. Thank you.

Well, I did not hear anything after I tried the same thing after the button popped out. Maybe I blew a fuse somewhere. I will check some threads to find the fuse locations for the top. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. tmw

Check the convertible forum at e46fanatics.com all sorts of useful info there. I believe the re sync procedure is also in the owners manual, although not positive.

I appreciate your suggestion but have not found any information on the re sync yet. I found the fuses, checked them all and afterwards when I pressed the top back button, I could hear the motors running again. So, at least there is power to the motors. Thanks. tmwtf
