Should I, or shouldn't I...

The ex-gf has got to sell her old car...an '87 535is. Has one small dent in the right rear door, not many miles on a rebuilt tranny, doesn't smoke, leak, meow, or anything. The only thing at all I notice is that the brake light on the panel stays on. She's trying to get $2k. I've driven it many times over the years, so I know it well, and there aren't any other issues. Shall I help and out and get it, or.....? Although I always drove it when we were together, I still don't know much about 'em. I do like the fact that when you set the switch on the console to "S", the front lowers when you shift into gear with it. I'm assuming that it's [I]supposed [I] to do that, of course. Anyway....... gotta decide soon, 'cause she's gotta sell it

EX GF? No. I would stay out of it altogether.

For two grand you can't go wrong. There's not alot of good E28's left anymore. These cars are pretty easy to work on so you shouldn't be too worried about the brake light or other minor issues.

Even though she's an ex, we're still very good friends. So it's not like there's anything hidden here. Think I'll see if I can dig up the money somewhere....hate to stop buying cameras just for a car, but--ya gotta do what's right.

On some models an electronic-hydraulic trans was available with a selector knob on the console near the shifter. Evidently your car isn't one of those.

It should have the selector switch by 87. The last time the 535i had the 4hp22 was in 85. 8t should have the 4hp22 eh.

If the Car got a rebuilt transmission then there shouldn't be a problem selling the car for a profitable price. Besides the new buyer will be happy anyways.
