Secondary Injection Pump
Need some advice,
I got the Secondary Injection Pump/engine light problem like everybody else. I have since replaced 1. air pump 2. hoses all the way from the pump to the valves 3. Both Valves Still after replaced the parts and reset the error code, the light comes up again with the same error after a week. Anybody have any other inputs on this? I am thinking about one of the engine harness, I have heard that someone had to replace the wires to get it completely delt with?

Well, since you already know about all the issues with the secondary air that other members have faced, I'm surprised that you don't already know what the problem and solution is. Unfortunately for you and most everyone else, you have clogged air ports on your cylinder heads. That will require the removal of the heads, chemical cleanig and honing of those ports/passages. You might be able to find a shop that will do it for 5 or 6k dollars. BMW dealer charges around 10k. A couple of members have managed to do a similar DIY by fishing a wire through the ports with the heads in place and also spraying/soaking them with Seafoam for several days. It's a PITA process, but apparently worked well enough to silence the SES light. Fortunately for me, emissions testig is being phased out in my part of the world, so I won't have to deal with it. FWIW, this issues has no effect on engine performance, fuel economy, or engine longevity....it's strictly a pollution control system.
Good Luck. |
